PMLD Teacher

Your new company

Your new primary SEN school provides support to pupils with PD (Physical Disabilities) however you will more specifically be supporting and teaching a class of 8 children who have PMLD and showcase challenging behaviours. The school is located in North Staffordshire and due to transport links in the area, the ideal applicant will need to have a full driving license and transport.

Your new role

As a PMLD Teacher you will be monitoring and reporting on the progress of pupils. You will be required to provide lesson plans and resources to match the teaching standards of the school. You will be working towards the P-Scales curriculum and will provide 1:1 and group support to pupil in KS1 and KS2. You will be assisted in your delivery of lessons by a number of specially trained Teaching Assistants (usually 1:1 support for each pupil) and will communicate with pupils using a variety of different methods including, Makaton, communication logs and sensory based lessons.

What you'll need to succeed

You must be a qualified teacher with QTS and/or PGCE, have UK teaching experience with KS1-2 pupils and be passionate about working within the SEN arena. Experience working with children that have PMLD is essential. The role has become available due to early retirement of the current class teacher at the end of this term. As such they need the ideal applicant to be able to transition into the school at the start of the summer term and have the strong leadership and communication skills to prevent challenging behaviours. A manual handling qualification would be an advantage however the school have said this is not a necessity as the school can provide onsite training with a qualified assessor if required.

What you'll get in return

In return you will benefit from working within a high achieving, GOOD OFSTED rated school. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills further, through extra training and on-the-job experience. The school will need support for the full summer term as they look to recruit permanently for September. There is the strong possibility that this role could become permanent as a result of your performance. You will work four days a week, Monday to Thursday and have the option of additional supply work throughout the area for a Friday. Interviews are taking place ASAP and ourselves and the school are encouraging visits to the school, specifically the PMLD unit where you would be based.
