A leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics is seeking a Theatre Practitioner (Scrub Nurse) to join their team of staff in the Theatre Unit of their private hospital based in Winchester.

Role Purpose:

* To work in liaison with the Theatre manager to provide high standards of nursing care in all areas within the Theatre Unit.
* To deputise for the Theatre Manager in his/her absence.
* To work as a team member within the Operating Department and within the Hospital.

Core Responsibilities:

* To accept delegated responsibilities from the Theatre Manager in his/her absence and at other times as required.
* To ensure effective utilisation and revenue/cost capturing of material resources.
* To assist with budget preparation for the department.
* To take part in the interviewing and selection of junior staff, and be actively involved in their orientation and development.
* Co-ordinate staff appraisal.
* Participate in on-call rotas.
* To continually review nursing workload and utilise all resources to deliver quality care.
* Act at all times to maintain a healthy and safe environment for yourself, staff, patients and visitors to ensure compliance with Health and Safety legislation.
* Report, investigate and document incidents, accidents or complaints in accordance with Hospital policy and update policies and procedures to prevent repetition in liaison with your line manager.
* To deliver at all times high standards of nursing care and to act as a point of reference for junior staff.
* To maintain professional credibility and attend relevant courses to assist in enabling the effectiveness of the role.
* To monitor the performance of the Theatre team and ensure that they have the skill, knowledge and attitude necessary to ensure a safe clinical environment.
* In conjunction with the Theatre Manager utilise appraisal reviews to plan training / recruitment needs for the coming year.
* To facilitate appropriate education and training opportunities for nursing staff and ensure that local mandatory training requirements are met.
* To ensure the appropriate provision of nursing care through adherence to clinical policies, protocols, guidelines and professional standards.
* To participate in the ongoing review and development of clinical policies, protocols and guidelines and demonstrate leadership in changes in policy practice arising from audits, complaints, etc.
* To exercise appropriate problem solving and decision making skills.
* To manage effectively clinical emergency situations involving the provision of advanced life support.
* To establish and promote effective liaison and collaboration with Consultants and other hospital staff to ensure positive outcomes for patients.
* To promote services to consultant users and develop confidence in existing services provided
* To lead in planned practise development initiatives.

Knowledge / Skills / Qualifications:

* Preferred Theatre Course, eg ENB 176
* Preferred ENB 998
* Up-to-date working skills and knowledge of operating theatre practices
* Knowledge of NMC Code of Professional Conduct and implications
* Good communication and organisational skills
* Knowledge of Quality Assurance Tools
* Preferred knowledge of Human Resource issues including interviewing and appraising
* Preferred knowledge of Endoscopy and Recovery practices
* Preferred working knowledge of private sector
* Preferred basic management skills
