Job Title:Specialist Consultant - Brain Injury Service Lead
Reports to:Director of Governance and Quality Active Assistance and General Manager, Tania Brown Ltd

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Specialist Consultant is responsible for assisting the Director of Governance and Quality in growing a given specialist area of the business. The Specialist Consultant will have an agreed case load and contribute to the training, development and supervision of all Personal Care Assistants (PAs) and other key staff in line with requirements set out in the Essential Standards of Quality and Safety March 2010. The Specialist Consultant is to provide strong strategic, professional and clinical leadership; this is a role that also requires direct client contact to work alongside other Clinicians and Case Managers to set up new and complex packages by using their skills and expertise in their specialist area.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Client and Clinical team responsibilities
-Complete and review Client Needs Assessments and Risk Assessments in line with CQC guidance and internal processes
-Develop, review and implement Personal Care Plans in line with CQC guidance and current clinical practices
-Manage own case load of client care packages, monitor client care and well being
-Liaise with the Clinical Skills Training team to ensure additional relevant training including Bowel Management & Specialist Competency Training is identified and delivered where applicable. This may be classroom based or within the client's own home
-Assist with competency based training of PAs in the work place in this specialised area, liaising with the Clinical Skills Trainers where required
-Participate in the interviewing and recruitment of Personal Assistants and key staff for own case load and as part of the CSM team as required
-Take part in the Manager out of Hours Emergency Service as required
-Direct liaison with Social Services and Continuing Health Service, Case Managers, Solicitors or give guidance and support to RCMs and CSMs as required
-Attend case conferences/ MDT meetings as required to support own case load or support other RCMs and CSMs
-Update own specialist knowledge & skills in line with current best practice and registration requirements

Service Development and Governance:
-Support Director of Governance and Quality in the development of new care packages to ensure that the company's financial objectives are achieved
-Develop and negotiate new business relationships in liaison with the Commercial Team and General Manager of TBL
-Work with the Director of Governance and Quality and General Manager TBL to develop this specialist service in line with own specialist area, including managing meetings and developing related standards, processes and policies as required
-Attend and contribute to Regional Clinical Manager, Care Service Manager Meetings and other meetings as required
-Inform the Director of Governance and Quality / Regional Clinical Managers/ General Manager TBL of any issues that are likely to adversely impact the quality of client care and/or health and safety of employees
-Work with the Customer Services Manager to address complaints appropriately and in line with company policy
-Direct line management responsibility for an agreed team of Care Service Managers, Junior Care Service Managers and Team Leaders as required
-Tasks and projects as determined by the Director of Governance and Quality /General Manager TBL and within the scope of the role
-Support CSM team to develop their skills in supporting clients within this specialist area.
-Working with the training team to support the training, development and supervision of Personal Care Assistants and other key staff in all elements of this specialist area
-Support the training team to develop and deliver specialist training programmes as required
-Work with the recruitment team to assist in the writing of job adverts and interview processes for Personal Care Assistants and other key staff working with clients in this specialist area, as required
-Network with specialist centres, services, solicitors and other identified organisations to improve awareness and understanding of the company's service within this specialist area

Specific skills and Experience Required
Essential:
Professional Qualifications
-Registered General Nurse, Registered Mental Health Nurse, Occupational Therapist or Physiotherapist
-CQSW/Dip SW or other relevant Social Care qualifications
-Qualification in Chartered /Neuropsychology
-Degree in Speech and Language Therapy

Capability Base
-Must have a structured and logical thinking style that is comfortable operating at a detail level and at a directional level
-Strong influencing skills that will allow positive relationships to be built quickly with clients, solicitors, and other professionals
-Must be able to demonstrate excellent time management skills and also co-ordinate others when working to deadlines
-Must have excellent project management skills and the ability to supervise/ manage both internal and external staff
-Proven track record within specialism for this consultant role
-Previous management experience
-Must be willing to travel extensively to support Care Service Managers with development of packages on a national basis.
-Willing to travel to Head Office on a regular basis to attend meetings
-Willing to assist with delivery of training across the business
-IT literate
-Car owner with full UK driving licence

Preferred:
-Previous Case Management experience
-Experience of working with clients with complex needs including Brain InjuryTraining qualification i.e. Teaching & Assessing award, Mentorship award, Moving and Handling Trainer and/or Assessor or other relevant additional qualification
-Willingness to develop in this area of expertise and required
-Previous experience working with adults and or children within this specialist area, ideally in a community setting.
-Excellent team work along with verbal & written communication skills, results driven
-Ideally will have experience of dealing with multi-disciplinary teams

This role is home based, the Specialist Consultant will be expected to work flexibly, hours are predominantly Monday - Friday 9-5.30 but it is recognised these hours may vary depending on the work demands and in particular when setting up new care packages. The working hours are on average 37.5 hours a week.
