Position Summary:

The role of the BI Project Manager is to plan, control and execute a BI project or set of related BI projects to meet identified business needs and deliver business value, acquiring and utilising the necessary resources and skills, within agreed parameters of cost, timescales and quality.

• Typically project budgets ranging from GBP10k to approximately GBP1+m
• On time delivery of projects with limited business interruption
• Ensure technology project direction meets technical principles
• Manage the Programme budget and benefits realisation
• Management and coordination of multi-party delivery teams (internal and external)

Key Responsibilities/Duties:
The BI Project Manager is accountable for the end to end delivery of their assigned project objectives from inception to close down. During delivery, the BI Project Manager has full responsibility for the technology project deliverables within their remit. The BI Project Managers responsibilities include:
Project Management
• Takes responsibility for the definition, documentation and satisfactory completion of large-scale projects.
• Identifies, assesses and manages risks to the success of the project.
• Ensures that realistic project and quality plans are prepared and maintained and provides regular and accurate reports to stakeholders as appropriate.
• Ensures that quality reviews occur on schedule and according to procedure.
• Manages the change control procedure and ensures that project deliverables are completed within planned cost, timescale and resource budgets and are signed off.
• Provides effective leadership to the project team and takes appropriate action where performance deviates from agreed tolerances.
Benefits Management
• Identifies mechanisms by which benefits can be delivered and measured and plans to activate these mechanisms at the required time.
• Monitors outcomes against what was predicted in the business case and ensures that operational managers and staff are informed and involved throughout the change programme and fully prepared to exploit the new operational business environment once it is in place.
• Coordinates personnel from different disciplines and with different viewpoints and leads activities required in the realisation of the benefits of each part of the change programme.
Change Implementation Planning and Management
• Creates business readiness plan, taking into consideration technology deployment, data migration\integration, capability deployment (training and engagement activities) and any business activities required to integrate new processes or jobs into the 'business as usual' environment.
• Determines the readiness levels of business users with regard to upcoming changes; uncovers readiness gaps and creates and implements action plans to close the gaps prior to going live.
• Assists the user community in the provision of transition support and change planning and liaises with the project team.
• Reports progress on business readiness targets, business engagement activity, training design and deployment activities, key operational metrics and return to productivity measures. Defines the series and sequence of activities to bring stakeholders to the required level of commitment, prior to going live.

General:
• As a high achieving Project Manager educated to degree level or have equivalent experience, you'll ideally also have a Project Management Qualification/Certification.
• You will have a proven track record of successfully managing and delivering BI projects on time, within budget and scope, with end-to-end accountability, within a large multi-site organisation.
• Achieving results through effective team leadership and through the planning, control and formal review of technology projects, including demonstrable success in managing multiple projects.
• Broadly skilled in information and communications technology. Have a comprehensive knowledge of relevant BI development life-cycles and the environment in which they operate.
• You will have the ability to generate and challenge proposed solutions to problems.
• Has strong planning, communication and presentation skills, is proficient in project quality management, and familiar with programme management.
• Has deep understanding on a range of BI analysis, modelling and design methods, and able to cope with complex data; has good current knowledge of technical standards, applications and trends. Has an analytical and creative approach to problem solving.
• Has sound understanding of the costs of technology (project and "lifetime") and the ability to cost operational technology services.
• Skilled at identifying benefits which come in the form of cost savings both within technology and in the business, in relation to the operational cost of the technology service.
• Has a sound understanding of risk management.
• Understands the interdependencies of business processes and information systems and it's connection to the BI landscape.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

Related work experience:
• Extensive experience delivering BI projects with a comprehensive technical understanding of BI tools and architecture.
• Proven track record in being able to challenge and drive development teams in terms of design and solution delivery
• Project management experience in managing large cross-functional teams with a transformation project environment
• Proven track record of influencing senior level management and stakeholders
• Maintain business buy-in and adoption to the solution throughout the delivery lifecycle
• Experience of delivering business intelligence and data warehousing projects and systems in greenfield sites.
• Exposure to SAP BW, Netezza and SSIS would be highly regarded
• Experience with SAP Business Objects and SAP ERP Modules beneficial

Formal education or equivalent:
• Strong academic credentials coupled with sound technical capabilities
• Higher degree desirable (MBA etc.)
• PRINCE Practitioner, PMI or equivalent
• Deep knowledge of Business Intelligence technologies
