Progress Lead

Salary: MPS 5 or UPS 3 + TLR 2.2 depending on experience.
The Supply Register are currently working with a secondary school in the Staines area who are looking to employ for a progress lead position. Ability to teach Geography and/or Science is desirable.
Job Purpose

• Raise standards of and be accountable for student attainment and achievement across a year group, tracking and supporting academic progress through a 5-year cycle and ensuring strategies are in place to address underachievement

Key Strategic Responsibilities

• To meet regularly with the Assistant Head teacher RSL to discuss student academic progress within the Year group and strategies for ongoing improvement
• To use data effectively to identify under-performance and where necessary create and implement effective action plans and interventions to challenge under-performance and support improvement in academic progress
• As part of the Progress Lead team, contribute to the development and implementation of policies and practices that reflect the school's commitment to student progress and effective learning and teaching
• To lead and manage the academic progress aspect of the tutor team within the Year group
• To establish effective working relationships with a range of stakeholders including parents

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

Leadership and Management
• Contribute to academic progress items at tutor team meetings
• Lead academic progress Year group assemblies as per agreed schedule
• Ensure that tutors have an effective programme of tutorial activities related to academic progress and support them in the delivery

• Have a detailed knowledge of school data system (SIMS) to enable accurate tracking of student progress in the Year group and use prior attainment data to provide analysis and evaluation of data, review progress and identify, in liaison with Assistant Head teacher RSL, underachievement and implement appropriate intervention strategies
• Develop and implement effective intervention strategies, including academic mentoring and student reviews, to ensure that all students are supported in achieving their potential
• Have an understanding subject and year targets for student achievement
• Review and analyse the academic performance of different groups of students in the cohort - PP, FSM, CLA, Disadvantaged - compared to internal and national performance and implement appropriate intervention in liaison with the SENCo/relevant member of SLT
• Contribute to, monitor and evaluate effective use of Pupil Premium funding to raise attainment
• Liaise regularly with HoFs, G&T Co-ordinator and other relevant staff in the use of data to identify and address underachievement
• Liaise with the relevant member of SLT to support effective arrangements for parents evenings
• Work with the Assistant Head teacher RSL to oversee arrangements for reporting student progress within the Year group
• Communicate effectively with parents/carers, support staff, governors & external agencies in relation to students' attainment and progress and relevant intervention strategies
• Ensure progress and achievement has a high profile throughout the year and is celebrated through assemblies, newsletters, parental communication and notice boards
• Monitor homework standards in consultation with HoFs to evaluate their impact on independent learning skills and academic progress

Student Management and Guidance
• Foster positive relationship with all members of the Year group whereby each student can turn to you for academic support and guidance
• Facilitate discussions with students about their work and academic progress
• Carry out lesson visits to inform progress discussions
• Support students in the setting of SMART action targets and develop students' understanding of the academic target setting process
• Work closely with the member of SLT and Pastoral Lead responsible for Year 6 Transition to ensure a smooth transition and academic progression for each individual student in Year 7
• Work closely with the member of SLT responsible for Options, tutors and students to ensure engagement in an appropriate curriculum to facilitate progress
• Work with students and tutor team to ensure thorough preparation for further education/employment and training
• Respond speedily to parent/carer communication and be available for effective home-school liaison
• Liaise with the member of SLT responsible for exams and Exams Officer to help to ensure the smooth running of external or internal exams for the Year group and to coordinate effective support from the tutor team
• Maintain an overview of the curriculum as it is experienced by students in the relevant Year groups and to be involved in discussions about teaching and learning
• Contribute to the preparation of references for students as required
• Liaise with the Careers teachers/colleges/6th form provision in relation to external events and student career progression
