Knowledge and Understanding

* Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the available photographic and scientific techniques available to enhance, recover and record evidence.
* Possess a thorough understanding of forensic science and its application within modern criminal investigations.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the current legislation relating to police investigations, and more specifically crime scene examination.

Skills and Abilities

* Ability to make objective decisions based on available information, aquired knowledge and experience. Taking responsibility for ones own actions and decisions made.
* Ability to deliver solutions to diverse problems often with conflicting priorities, limited resources and after excessive hours.
* Ability to analyse and record information available at crime scenes, then interpret this information to form hypotheses about offender behaviour.
* Ability to direct members of the public and other police personnel when taking control of a crime scene.
* Ability to use tact and diplomacy in sensitive situations encountered when dealing with victims of a crime.
* Ability to cope with stressful and traumatic situations.
* Awareness of the Health & Safety issues relating to scene examination, and the recovery and storage of exhibits.
* Ability to communicate verbally in a confident, clear and concise manner on the telephone and when engaged in face-to-face contact.
* Ability to produce effective written reports, ensuring all information is recorded.
* Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative with minimal supervision.
* Possess a sound knowledge of working with Microsoft applications including Word, Outlook and data entry.

Education and Qualification

* Successfully completed the NPIA Stage 2 Foundation CSI Learning Programme or equvalent (equivalent training must have been delivered by a Home Office recognised Forensic Training provider or UK Police Force)

* Full Driving License
* Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to continual professional development within the role.
* Physically able to carry routine CSI Equipment (approx. 10kg), climb stairs and be able to get out of police vehicles after spending time travelling between scenes.
* Ability to meet the minimal requirements of an eyesight and hearing test as completed during the medical examination
