An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Development Underwriter to join our Commercial Underwriting team. This is a home/field based role with occasional travel to our Head office in Doncaster and our London offices. We are ideally looking for candidates based in or around the Manchester or Leeds region.

Summary Purpose

This role is an integral part of the Underwriting Team and will contribute to the development and profitable growth of the Commercial SME business for the group.

You will deliver superior rating and risk selection across a range of Commercial SME Products

You will take responsibility for developing a panel of profitable, supportive broker relationships within your designated area.

From an operational perspective the role will report to the Distribution area of the business.

Key Objectives

• Underwrite profitable business in line with business procedures, authority limits and guidelines, achieving agreed personal and business objectives.
• Identify and develop a panel of brokers within your designated area, building strong business relationships and a profitable portfolio of commercial business
•Ensure agreed Service Level Agreements are met or exceeded
•Work effectively with other areas of the business to identify opportunities outside of your own business area.

Key Responsibilities

•Underwrite new business enquiries for the designated region in line with agreed personal and business objectives.

•As required support the office based Underwriting Team in the servicing of existing business.

•Provide a good level of service to brokers, meeting or exceeding Service Level Agreements.

•Work within agreed underwriting authority, making referrals and following business procedures as required by the business.

•Develop and manage agreed business plans for individual broker account strategy, establishing and develop relationships with key personnel.

•Develop and manage agreed business plans for partner networks, establishing and developing relationships with key personnel.

•Represent the business at events, exhibitions and conferences as required by the business.

•Complete daily, weekly, monthly and ad-hoc reports as required by the business.

•Continually work with the business to improve product, service and distribution proposition.

•Actively promote other area of the business and associated products.

•Work closely with colleagues to achieve shared objectives.

•Report to the office at least once per week and as and when required by the business.

Skills Qualifications and Experience

•A minimum of 5 years underwriting experience in a similar home based or branch role.
•Sound knowledge, experience and a track record of success working with UK Commercial Brokers.
•Ability and confidence to work in a development capacity as part of a small dedicated team.
•Self-motivated, well organised and capable of managing own diary / workloads.
•Proactive towards changing working environments.
•Good people skills with the ability to communicate and build rapport and influence across a diverse range of personalities.
•Proactive, resourceful and creative approach to problem solving.
•Numerate, literate with good analytical skills.
•ACII qualification or good progress made towards.

This is a full time position working 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday
