Job Description

Role: Credit Analyst

The Company

We are an entrepreneurial, fast paced consumer finance business based in the North West. Our products cover a variety of sectors including secured lending, personal loans and car finance.

With a track record of growth, the business has recently secured investment from a private equity institution specialising in financial services, received full FCA authorisation for all regulated activities and extended its banking facilities to support future growth.

About The Role

We are looking for an experienced credit analyst to join the business at an exciting and pivotal point in its evolution. The role will have a significant impact in helping to meet challenging targets in the coming years.

The successful candidate will have hands on experience working in transaction-based consumer industries where acquiring customers online is core to the business model. The ideal candidate will have credit risk experience developed within consumer lending and be able to demonstrate a track record of adding value through analytics, data mining and developing score cards.

You will be commercially aware with first class communication and presentation skills, highly motivated, driven and professional in your approach.

In order to successfully perform the role, the individual will need to work together with all departments in particular Marketing, Underwriting and Collections. You may also need to work with external business partners who fulfil a critical part of the loan provision process. From this vantage point you will be in an ideal position to provide suggestions on how to improve the service.

As the Credit Analyst you will build scorecards and use other techniques to deliver smarter, automated decisions. In addition the role includes analyst responsibilities involving any aspect of the financial process including reporting, analysis, testing, support, and project management.

Main Responsibilities

Main responsibilities will be to:

Design reports for management information;
Produce ad hoc analysis and reports to address business questions;
Analyse credit decisions and make recommendations to improve efficiency and efficacy;
Analyse marketing activity with the aim of improving targeting and cost efficiency;
Work with third parties to obtain data that may be beneficial to risk assessment;
Develop scorecards, providing data and implementing solutions.
Other responsibilities will be to:

Support the design and recommend improvements to the customer database;
Support testing of decision systems and other business processes;
Monitor and report on the performance of statistical models;
Work with Marketing, Underwriting and Collections where necessary;
Monitor management information/reporting tools which will provide information on key performance indicators and alerts specific to our business. The user interface will be configured to suit requirements;
Reporting on the performance of the portfolio
Required Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
Able to communicate technical credit risk issues to management;
Technical ability, able to use reporting or data access tools such as SQL;
Beneficial Skills

Use analysis tools such as SAS;
Experience of lending;
Knowledge of the near-prime credit market;
Experience of statistical software packages;
Knowledge of scorecard modelling techniques;
Experience of underwriting.
