About Our Client

An exciting opportunity exists with my client, a major player in the construction/house builder market with a recognised national presence for a Regional Finance Manager in the Midlands.

Job Description

• To assist the Regional Finance Director in driving the effective financial and workflow performance of the region to deliver against its business targets through the provision of analysis and insight of both standard and ad hoc financial reports.
• To be the key relationship manager between the Region and the Head Office based Accounting & Reporting Team in order to ensure that the Region's financial requirements are met on a timely and accurate basis.

Key Responsibilities

• To produce regular performance update reports to both the regional board and/or Group (some weekly and some monthly) with insightful commentary and/or analysis to aid key decision making
• To provide business partnering with a number of functional departments, including monthly updates on spend vs budget as well as hand-holding through the budget process
• To review the monthly management accounts, alongside the Management Accountant, including undertaking regular detailed transaction-level reviews to ensure the integrity of the reported numbers
• To own the monthly forecasting process primarily through the use of Adaptive Insights, the forecasting and budgeting software in use at McCarthy & Stone
• To take a key role in the annual budgeting process as well as handling multiple ongoing projects throughout the year
• To fully immerse themselves in the operation of the region including regular site visits, work-shadowing key personnel, aiding other departments where necessary etc.
• To act as deputy to the Finance Director from time to time

Relationships

• Regional Finance Director and other Directors on the Regional Managing Board
• Regional managers and staff across all disciplines in the regionGroup Head Office staff, including Group Financial Controller, Head of Accounting & Reporting and Head of Planning & Performance

Person Specification:

Education and Qualifications

• Educated to degree level (minimum 2.1) or equivalent
• Hold a recognised professional accountancy qualification (ACCA/CIMA/ACA)
• A minimum of 3 years PQE

Skills & Competencies

• Strong analytical and excel modelling skills
• Ability to translate outputs to both a financial and non-financial audience
• Strong presentation skills

• Be able to rapidly forge effective and collaborative working relationships with others, and work productively as part of a driven, highly autonomous and entrepreneurial regional business
• Very comfortable interacting with senior director's as well as colleagues in non-Finance roles
• Able to think "out of the box" in order to deal with imperfect data and uncertainties and still derive useful information
• Comfortable working under pressure to deliver high quality output to very tight deadlines on a regular basis
• Highly driven, hard-working and self-starting with ambition to take their career to Board level
Conditions of Work
• The post is office based but will require occasional travel within the Region
• Occasional nights away from home may be necessary.
