Area Operations Manager

What is the purpose of this role?

This position will play a key role in creating and delivering the strategic direction of Water Production and collaboration across Water Supply. You will be responsible for a regional production team responsible for the treatment and production of quality drinking water for our customers. This role will ensure you will provide input to the development and delivery of a sustainable Water Production strategy to achieve consistent improvements in financial (TOTEX), people, customer and health & safety KPIs, by driving a culture of safety, performance management and exceptional customer service and experience within a designated area and across Water Production.

What makes this role unique?

This exciting role will take responsibility for team of circa. 70 people across treatment works and reservoirs to deliver base internal performance targets – H&S, financial, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction and employee engagement.  In addition, you will be focussing on continuous performance improvements including consistent reductions in the operational cost to serve.

What will this role involve?

Managing and coordinating all water treatment activities within designated area to meet regulatory and legislative requirement.

Ensuring sustainable operational capacity is provided through implementation of operations and maintenance strategy, management of directly managed capital works and coordination with capital works programme.

Identifying & exploiting synergies between other Water Production and operational areas in collaboration with the lead teams to formulate and deliver the Water Production strategy whilst pro-actively seeking external best practice / benchmarking to enhance performance.

Being responsible for the direction of the designated area team, ensuring relevant people plans are in place to deliver current and future requirements in capability and resource.

Being accountable for the development of excellent working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including relevant contractors to ensure they are managed, motivated and operate safely.

Assessing the impact and manage the risk management process and H&S activities for designated area and across Water Production and act according across the whole of Thames Water.

The successful candidate will also set the agenda and gain the resources you need through gathering information, analysing risks and opportunities and turning them in to well-planned and well-articulated business plans. You will set clear expectation for your teams, role model the company values and instil a sense of pride by demonstrating commitment and integrity and creating a reputation for delivering on promises.

This is a management position based at Farmoor Water Treatment Works. We are offering a salary of up to £52,000 depending on skills and experience.  In addition we have a range of benefits including an excellent contributory pension scheme, childcare vouchers, season ticket loans and paid volunteering days.
