We are looking for a proactive Finance Officer with a strong commitment to customer service to provide an outstanding service in the Faculty of Mathematics & Physical Sciences.

Supervising a small team you will report to the School Finance ManagerManagement Accountant, but will also work closely with colleagues in the faculty and its constituent schools. Your responsibilities will include financial planning and forecasting, budgetary control and management of the account structures.

You will have substantial experience of working in a finance role, undertaking and advising others about finance systems and procedures.

What does the role entail?

As a Finance Officer your duties will include:
*Preparation of quarterly forecasts and five year financial plans, monitoring and reporting on variances;
*Accountable for the management of individual accounts, budgets and audit compliance;
*Responsible for reviewing and reconciling credit card statements, maintaining receipt files and producing pre-payment journals;
*Releasing and authorising approved expenses, such as travel expenses and student payments.
*Managing account structures, the need for new accounts, new account classification and availability control;
*Preparing financial reports and ensuring invoicing is in line with individual sponsor requirements;
*Completion of statutory returns to strict deadlines;
*Liaising with the University contracts team, external sponsors and academics to agree contract and payment terms;
*Providing advice and guidance for costing Restricted and other ad-hoc projects
*Liaising with academic and other staff, dealing with account queries and obtaining planning information, providing expert operational advice and training, as required;
*Supervising the Finance team ensuring that all financial deadlines are met and that a high standard of service is provided at all times.

What will you bring to the role?

As a Finance Officer you will have:
*GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade C or above (or an equivalent qualification)
*AAT or equivalent qualification
*Strong numerical skills and substantial experience of working in a similar role, using and advising others about finance systems and procedures;
*Practical experience of budgetary control systems;
*Practical experience of financial planning and forecasting;
*Proven ability to meet tight deadlines by prioritising own workload and working on own initiative;
*Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to explain financial information to non-Finance colleagues;
*Excellent IT skills, proficient in MS Office Applications with a good standard of Excel;
*Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team
