Responsible for (staff): Business Recruitment Executives, External Communications Team Leader, Business Development Executives.
Responsible for: Employer engagement, commercial and business development projects, promotion of apprenticeships, new business and levy development.

Job purpose
To provide strategic and operational leadership of business and commercial development teams to achieve agreed targets.
To develop productive relationships with businesses across the region, particularly large businesses, to grow and develop new and apprenticeship pathway.
To work with the Head of Apprentices to grow apprentice numbers
To ensure that all business processes support the research, response and achievement of key business and commercial opportunities
To act as key champion for income diversity across all College operations
To provide leadership and management for staff within the Business Centre and Marketing

Duties and responsibilities
Key Purpose
To generate profit for the College via commercial income (including bid-writing to external funding sources e.g. ESF, DWP etc), negotiate new contracts and manage the development and implementation of a range of commercial and employer related work which contributes to the College's overall financial surpluses and which reduces the College's dependency on public funding
To be entrepreneurial in seeking profitable business and seeking out innovative opportunities which enhance and promote the College's reputation as a leader in change and development
To be a member of the College Management Team and Policy and Strategy Group.
To ensure the highest standard of leadership and management for the College's commercial provision including responsive work, commercial courses, work based learning and international provision
To lead on implementation of the College Employer Engagement Strategy and develop a commercial and sales portfolio which establishes new income streams, ensuring the College's ability to deliver a customised, responsive and bespoke training offer to its employers and other learners
To lead International Business Development to develop and promote new income streams from international markets
To be responsible for the production of market research, labour market intelligence and internal data analysis to inform college commercial strategy and strategic and business plans
Liaise with the Director of Marketing to prepare promotional strategies, both internally and externally which support the College Strategic Plan, Curriculum Strategy, Employer Engagement Strategy and International Strategy
To promote Northampton College as the preferred provider of vocational education and training within its key localities and within niche areas
To be the outward face for Northampton College Business Services and to network and communicate with employers and employer networks to promote the College's enterprise activities, to identify and develop business opportunities and to broker commercial work
To lead, manage and develop the College's work experience activities and improve customer satisfaction
To lead, manage and develop the College's enterprise activities in liaison with Student Services
To meet delivery and income/profit targets for contracts relevant to the post and as directed by the Principal
To develop effective partnerships where appropriate, for example in the pursuit of bids

Main Duties
Operational Management
Lead, develop and manage all operations within the Business Centre
Manage the Business Recruitment and Business Development Executives and to ensure they achieve individual and College targets and liaise frequently with Heads of Schools departments to ensure there is a College wide approach to income generation and employer engagement
Produce a sound business plan for all operations, including clear objectives and an income and expenditure plan
Provide reports required by the Principal, Policy and Strategy Team (PST), the Corporation and its committees or external funding bodies
Manage the College's contracts for employer responsive projects, employability and work based learning, and other relevant employer related work, ensuring the delivery of associated targets
Manage all contracts within the post-holders responsibility including the appointment of staff and the management of budgets
Ensure quality of delivery
Conduct all research activities including managing and reporting on internal and employer surveys
To ensure that all activity generates a contribution to overheads, unless specifically agreed
Develop and manage the Business Recruitment Executives and Business Development Executives in the processes of employer engagement and compliance with employer standards including:
o Producing relevant labour market intelligence reports
o A one stop shop for employer information and advice
o A co-ordinated response to employer enquiries
o Management of the CRM and employer related data
o Co-ordination and production of employer feedback and customer satisfaction surveys
o Production of relevant reports and implementation of quality improvement plans
Generate key income streams for the College by seeking out bidding opportunities and writing successful bids
Promote innovation and development throughout the College and seek out new development opportunities which enhance the College's reputation, generate income and bring long-term benefits to curriculum development, the students' experience and financial growth
Manage the initial implementation and operation of any new projects
Negotiate contracts for new work and lead and co-ordinate the submission of applications for projects and funding opportunities
Identify and develop new market opportunities for international work and further develop existing markets to profitably grow this area of work
External Liaison and Promotion
Liaise with employers and employer networks and establish the College's reputation as an innovative organisation and a provider of skills and training
To develop productive strategic relationships with a wide range of regional partner organisations and agencies such as the local authority, Job Centre Plus, Skills Funding Agency, Local Enterprise Partnerships and employer network to promote the College's role in economic development
Promote the College's role in supporting new businesses and business start-ups amongst students and the public and liaise with relevant bodies to ensure an integrated package of support
Develop the College's relationship with Sector Skills Councils and work with the Heads of School to broker new work and advise on emerging employment needs
Report on and exploit external international links; for example the European Union Erasmus programme, agent networks
Ensure that all curricula managed within the unit meets college success, retention and achievement targets
Ensure that all contracts and sub-contracts comply with audit requirements
Implement and maintain college-wide systems to collate employer feedback including post training evaluations, after sales service and co-ordination of surveys
Prepare an annual self-assessment report and quality improvement plan in liaison with the Deputy Principal
Ensure that relevant training meets external funding and awarding body requirements including the completion of qualifications to meet the College's targets for success
Broker opportunities for staff updating and student work experience
Manage and contribute to relevant quality kite marks
Seek out and generate income related to research opportunities relevant to the development of the HE Skills curriculum
Generic Management
To support and contribute to the friendly and supportive ethos of the School/Department, particularly in communications with learners and staff. To offer leadership as well as management and administration.
To support other managers in the execution of their duties, irrespective of their location in the structure and to work collaboratively with them.
To contribute to the development of College policies and procedures as required and ensure staff compliance.
To support an ethos of openness, initiative and professionalism, recognising the contribution of staff members individually and collectively.
To contribute to College Planning according to the specialisms and role of the post holder.
To support the College's Management Information System.
To exercise generic management responsibility when necessary.
To produce an Annual Self-Assessment Report and Action Plan to support and contribute to the Staff Development Programme.
To be responsible for the management of Quality Assurance and Value for Money within the area designated by the role.
To appraise the staff line managed by the post holder as appropriate.
