Our client is an electrical wholesaler based in Maidstone. They are currently looking for a Credit Control Manager to join their team.
As Credit Control Manager, this position manages the sales ledger function of the accounts department. Overseeing the opening of accounts, allocating of payments, chasing of debt and management of credit accounts (from a risk perspective). The team includes a full-time credit controller and cash posting admin clerk.

The Manager's role would be to provide leadership and management of the staff, deal with the larger accounts and report directly to the Managing Director. When chasing the debt, our client prefers a relationship based approach, building up rapport and getting the customer on side. Ensuring that the aging of debts is monitored and appropriate action is taken (Directors approval / legal involvement).

They use invoice discounting for cash flow, management of this is crucial to the smooth running of the company, understanding what impact collection targets have and the age of their sales ledger is important.

They also insure their debt which given the high-risk nature of their industry (from insolvencies) again is of prime importance for the stability of the company. Understanding this policy and meeting the various rules and stipulations to ensure we are compliant is of vital importance.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Overseeing Sales Ledger - ensuring cash is allocated / Fac Flow updated daily
Managing the Aged Debt
Meeting with the Managing Director twice a month to review debtor levels, exposure risk and collections problems
Overseeing the opening of new accounts (referencing / credit checks / credit insurance application)
Ensuring they have appropriate credit insurance for their exposed credit risk (existing / new customers)
Attending LEWCA events and establish good relations within the group
Chasing outstanding debt (telephone / emails / letters etc) and highlight accounts to the Managing Director that need further chasing / legal action
Concentrating on chasing the large outstanding sums
Making sure they adhere to the terms of their credit insurance policy to minimise ther exposure
Delegating the remaining chasing to other members of the Credit Control team
Mentoring & supporting the other members of the Credit Control team

Overall Objectives:
Ensuring that they meet collection targets (85 days minimum)
Reporting any exposures over GBP30,000 to the Managing Director
Ensuring that all outstanding debts which are approaching the age to be reported to the credit insurer are notified to the Managing Director and insurance broker.
