RGS Recruitment is delighted to have been retained by a state secondary school in Epsom, Surrey to recruit an experienced and commercially minded School Business Manager who will lead, inspire and motivate.
This secondary with sixth form is non-denominational, non-selective and holds academy status. There are approximately 1,470 pupils aged 11-18 including 280 in the Sixth Form.

There are many very good reasons to join the outstanding staff team at this school not least of which is the fact that over the last three years they have been placed in the top 100 non-selective state schools in the country for their GCSE exam performance.

The main purpose of the role is to lead and manage all aspects of the school's non-teaching function including finance, administration, communications, human resources, facilities and health & safety. Essentially to fulfil the role of Company Secretary. Reporting to the Head Teacher and as a key member of the Senior Leadership Team you will be expected to demonstrate strategic thinking and direction setting.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: -

• Work with the Leadership Team and Governing Body to provide advice, guidance and strategic leadership which promotes and supports the school's aims
• Undertake strategic financial planning and provide advice to the Head Teacher, Leadership Team and Governors on the most effective use of resources and generation of income.
• Ensure all business management functions operate in accordance with statutory regulations
• Ensure the effectiveness of services to maximise the positive impact on teaching, learning and safeguarding of children
• Develop and share good practice across the school and extend partnerships with other schools and relevant bodies
• Oversee all aspects of the school's finance and budget, ensuring effective reporting and management systems
• Provide information and advice to the Governing Body on budgeting, financial planning and the development of a long-term financial strategy.
• Prepare annual budget/spending plans and plan forecast budgets for 3 to 5 years
• Seek to achieve 'best value' in all areas of expenditure by testing the market, negotiating and monitoring contracts and services
• Develop and co-ordinate grant applications from statutory, charity and voluntary organisations and maximise income generation from external sources.
• Oversee all aspects of the school's HR policies and procedures
• Take the lead in developing and delivering effective associate staff professional development
• Ensure all internal and external communications are appropriately managed to promote the school and that the values and ethos of the school are clear to all stakeholders.
• Take responsibility for the health, safety and security of the site and premises
• Oversee the facilities function to ensure the school environment is managed effectively and in accordance with the operational needs of the school.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant field or have gained the equivalent level of experience. You will be able to demonstrate effective leadership and people management skills and have experience of setting and managing budgets and business processes. Knowledge of Academy funding policies and procedures would be very useful as would experience of managing change and implementing new systems and procedures

Although not essential it would be a distinct advantage if you have previous and recent experience of working in the education sector as a Business Manager, Finance Manager or Bursar.
