Macildowie have been engaged on a retained basis to support Davies Veterinary Specialists with the recruitment of a new Finance Director, to help take the practice further in to the next stage of its development. Founded in 1989, Davies Veterinary Specialists is one of the largest veterinary referral centres in Europe and currently employ 170 people including over 60 veterinary nurses, 50 veterinary surgeons and a large Client Care team. Davies Veterinary Specialists recently confirmed their commitment to remaining one of the few independent referral practices with the internal transfer of ownership and increase in shareholding amongst colleagues. The role of Finance Director provides strategic and operational leadership on all aspects of finance, financial systems and procurement, together with contributing significantly to project management and implementation of change. This role provides financial leadership, advising the Managing Director and Board of Directors. The role will develop and implement innovative strategies that deliver strong financial performance alongside high standards of patient care, safety and customer experience. As a member of the Board, the role will contribute to the wider strategic development of the practice. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES -As a member of the Board and working with other Directors and Heads of Service develop an immediate to longer term financial strategy that ensures the ongoing financial sustainability and performance of the practice. -Provide impartial professional advice and meaningful financial analysis and interpretation to support formulation of strategy, planning and decision making. -Lead the practice annual planning and budgeting cycle, working closely with Directors and Heads of Service to ensure that budgets reflect and support current and future plans. -Ensure the practice has in place effective financial systems and processes and a rigorous framework of financial control and oversee such. -Ensure the accurate and timely preparation of management accounts and effective operation of all accounting functions; particularly purchase ledger, sales ledger, payroll, billing and invoicing and payments. -Prepare appropriate financial reports to be presented and discussed at Board level, as and when required. -Develop budget management, performance review process and information, at overall practice level and budget holder level to ensure effective management of expenditure and income. -Ensure that procurement and pricing processes are effective and deliver best value for the practice. -Assist with project management as needed. -Provide effective line management of staff including regular feedback, coaching and development discussions. -Provide ad-hoc professional advice and guidance to Directors and Heads of Service as required. -Prepare the annual statement of accounts. -Communicate information on financial performance ensuring that the communication is appropriate to the intended audience. -Ensure the provision of effective internal and external audit services. -Contribute to the strategic development of the practice, and develop financial strategies which are in line with the practice vision and strategy. -With support from the HR Director, manage any disciplinary, attendance and/or performance concerns within the finance and procurement team. -Perform any other duties as appropriate to this role, and the skills/knowledge of the post holder To be considered for the position of Finance Director you will need be a qualified accountant CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent and ideally hold a post graduate management qualification. You will have experience of working within a professional services environment, veterinary or private healthcare industry specific would be highly advantageous. Accounting system implementation experience is essential, as is a generally high level of ability using IT systems and software and the ability to deliver change. You will be required to manage relationships and communicate with people from a range of backgrounds across the business and identify opportunities to improve operational excellence. Macildowie will conduct this assignment on a retained basis with the understanding that Macildowie are appointed as the exclusive external agency partner.
