JOB TITLE: Finance Manager

SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary GBP43,428 per annum (plus 15% pension contribution)


THE COMPANY: The Diocese of Winchester is not only the people, churches and schools that make it up, but also an organisation that supports those communities and governs the Diocese.

Founded in 676AD it is one of the five senior dioceses of the Church of England. The Diocese consists of about two thirds of the County of Hampshire and most of Bournemouth in the County of Dorset, excluding Portsmouth and the area immediately to its north and north-east.

They now seek an experienced Finance Manager to join their team where you will be based at Winchester and will work from the Portsmouth & Winchester offices.

THE ROLE: As a Finance Manager your responsibilities will be to provide professional and structured control of the diocesan finances as well as providing management accounts and liaising with budget holders and diocesan teams. You will receive support from the Finance Officer and will have direct responsibilities for the day to day finances of the Winchester & Portsmouth Diocese.

Key Responsibilities for the Finance Manager's role in Winchester & Portsmouth, Hampshire:

- Lead on and oversee management accounts
- Oversee and lead a small team to ensure the overall financial integrity of accounts
- Produce monthly management accounts and thorough reports as well as other key control reports are produced accurately
- Liaise with budget holders, stakeholders and hold regular meetings to ensure accurate forecasts and that variances from budget are properly understood and controlled
- Monitor fund balances and investments transferring funds as necessary to meet the ongoing financial commitments of the diocese
- Ensure the diocese has sufficient cash available to meet its commitments
- Produce range of processes are completed to deadlines such as transaction processing, month-end and year-end close are completed and ensure bank reconciliation's and other key control accounts are regularly reconciled and discrepancies followed-up and resolved

THE CANDIDATE: The successful candidate for the Finance Manager's role must have previous experience in a similar role and must have a Professional Accounting Qualification (e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA). You must have a high level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications(Word, Excel, Outlook) particularly Excel and have experience of handling payroll and VAT or a good understanding and knowledge of how to handle payroll and VAT. You should also have experience of working in the Third Sector or a good understanding of Finance within Third Sector organisations.

Key Experience/ Characteristics preferred for the Finance Manager's role in Winchester & Portsmouth, Hampshire :-

- Professional Accounting Qualification (e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA)
- High level of IT skills and experience with Microsoft office packages
- Experience of handling payroll and VAT or good working knowledge & understanding
- Previous Third Sector experience or a good understanding of Finance within Third Sector organisations
- Driving Licence and use of your own vehicle would be highly desirable
