Working as a Payroll Administrator, you will have the opportunity to advance your career as you learn more about the role. The role will give you the opportunity to provide specialist payroll administration support, take responsibility for the processing of monthly payrolls and deal with statutory calculations including Tax, NI, SSP, SMP, etc.

You will be responsible for processing monthly payrolls, managing permanent and variable adjustments, produce relevant reports, deal with queries and resolve any issues pre and post payroll.

Working as part of a team, you will also have excellent communication skills as you work across all level of employees as well as external parties.

You will have the opportunity to provide input into improving payroll administration processes and the service the support function based in HR provide to the business. You will also assist with other ad hoc duties and projects to support departmental and company objectives.

There will be opportunities to display your leadership skills as you deputise for the Senior Payroll Controller in their absence and will actively participate in HR projects.

Being the first line telephone and email contact for Managers and employees, you will be required to handle queries and deal with all payroll related administration duties.

Accuracy of data is imperative and you will be expected to have a good understanding of compliance requirements including maintaining accurate documentation for auditing purposes.

Using your skills of coaching, you will support other team members on the payroll specialism and support and guide employees with payroll related queries. You'll need to develop strong team relationships with members and work with internal customers - employees and Managers in understanding/resolving payroll queries. External relationships extend to working with ADP, HMRC, 3rd Party Suppliers, etc.

You'll need to have current payroll Technical & Legislative knowledge and a broad knowledge of Payroll systems e.g. ADP (iHCM), Ceridian, Sage, Ingenuity. Experience of using ADP's iHCM product or similar is advantageous.
You should have a good understanding of HR Practice and have Computer Literacy (Payroll Systems and including MS Office).
If you have a recognised payroll qualification that is ideal, but experience is equally important.
You must have high levels of accuracy and attention to detail and strong planning and organisational skills.
Your communication skills will be excellent and you'll have the ability to translate complex issues into easily understandable explanations which can be shared with employees of all levels across the organisation.
