Optima Plus Recruitment are exclusively representing a growing management services business in the Stoke on Trent area with the recruitment of a Financial Controller. Working closely with the Senior Management Team you will be responsible for providing all aspects of robust financial control for this complex structure of companies. It is a pivotal role to support the development/rapid growth of the business; which will include support for the financial structuring and forecasting, which is critical to the expansion of the business.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ability to lead and support a finance team (currently 3 Management Accountants)
• Monthly and quarterly reporting to strict deadlines for a number of companies
• Preparation and review of papers/reports for investors and Board members
• Preparation of month end management accounts for a number of companies; including analysis of variances to budget and reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts
• Suggest/implement improvements to systems/processes/reporting, including KPIs
• Tight management of working capital
• Ensure tight controls over the approval and processing of all payments, including payments for the project companies requiring project board approval
• Management of drawdown against loan facilities for projects
• Preparation of annual budgets and development of robust forecasts for P&L, Balance sheet and cashflow
• Good working knowledge of the various company tax requirements (including Corp tax/VAT/PAYE) and ability to work with external advisers on more complex technical issues
• Preparation of statutory accounts for the Group of companies as well as project companies
• Liaison with all auditors; both for statutory audits and auditors from investor/project companies
• Liaison with other advisors
• Adhoc financial analysis
• Development/improvement to processes and production of Finance Manual
• Ad hoc projects

Due to the complex nature of this role the following skills and experience is essential:
• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with at least 5 years post qualified experience and demonstrable track record of delivering at this level
• Leadership of a small team
• Strong IT skills including advanced Excel. Knowledge of Sage is desirable but not essential.
• High degree of analytical skills
• High level of attention to detail
• Work on own initiative
• Good communication skills - verbal and written
• Builds good relationships
• Planning and organising, to meet strict deadlines
• Ability to recognise and support the needs of the broader team
