Milton Keynes College are working in partnership with the South Central region to put education at the heart of the prison system.

We have a brand new opportunity for a dedicated and experienced peer-mentoring professional, to enhance the support and training for prisoners that are engaged in peer mentoring within the Thames Valley prisons. The successful applicant will be supporting teams of prison mentors who will in turn effectively mentor men within their educational studies.

This exciting opportunity will provide rewarding outcomes both directly and indirectly. This vacancy would suit a highly motivated person with excellent organisation, communication and mentoring skills. You will provide training and support for the prison mentors through a variety of methods including small groups and 1:1 session's, you will also be confident observing mentors within learning environments and provide feedback with action plans. Supporting prison mentors will be a fundamental part of this role. The ideal applicant will also have some experience of working with tutors to help develop a more effective use of mentors within the classroom.

As a successful applicant, you will have:

* L2 or above mentoring qualification, with up-to-date knowledge of the subject area.
* L2 or above advice and guidance qualification (desirable)
* L2 or above qualification in Maths and English
* A proven track record of providing mentors with support, advice and guidance to develop their skills and ultimately ensure learners receive high quality mentoring within classrooms
* Experience of observing mentors and providing feedback with action plans and support.
* Skills and experience to provide training to tutors in relation to planning and working effectively with mentors.
* Understanding of how mentoring skills can be transferred when applying for jobs
* Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and organisational skills
* Team focused with strong motivational skills
* Ability to work under pressure
* Self-managing/reflective

Location: South Central (across six prisons)

Hours: 37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year

Salary: GBP28,373 - GBP33,654 per annum
