In this varied role, you will become responsible for a for a wide variety of client sectors, predominantly producing year end accounts, management accounts, corporation tax computations and returns, personal tax computations and returns, bookkeeping, VAT, and CIS matters. Clients will typically be small limited companies, partnerships and sole traders with turnovers of GBP100k to GBP1m.

This firm are looking to expand their practice by adding an enthusiastic Senior Accountant to their team of 10 staff, who will share the same values and enrich the proficient and self-motivated team.


Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) the following broad range of accounting duties:

  • Preparing interim management accounts, to include a P&L and Balance sheet;

  • Visiting clients;

  • Meeting all statutory and client deadlines as well as exceeding them;

  • Preparing annual statutory accounts for small companies, sole traders, partnerships, LLP and Charity clients;

  • Preparing tax computations (corporate and personal);

  • To perform the practices review procedure and completion procedure, as well as attend the final client meeting and ensure they have received the final accounts, management letter and adjustments to opening balances;

  • Carrying out company secretarial duties on behalf of clients (annual returns, incorporations and dissolutions);

  • Supervising and reviewing work carried out by accounts assistants;

  • To oversee and contribute to the overall development of the less experienced members of the accounts team ensuring they are developed to their maximum potential;

  • Assisting in the planning and management of the workflow;

  • Building and maintaining client relationships;

  • Ensuring that all work is completed on time and within budget;

  • Providing the client with efficient and effective client service at all times;


Reporting directly to and working alongside the practice Director, the following skills and experience are essential for the successful candidate:

  • Recognised accountancy qualification or qualified by experience;

  • Minimum 3 years' experience, within a UK general accountancy practice environment, covering ledger work, month end journals and balance sheet reconciliations;

  • Proficient in Sage Line 50 and Excel;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Excellent attention to detail;

  • Outstanding organisational skills;

  • Ability to work to deadlines and manage a diverse portfolio of clients;

  • Someone who takes pride in their work and in offering a first class service;

  • Ability to lead by example;

  • Work efficiently in order to complete targets and meet deadlines;

  • Comfortable working within a fast paced working environment;

  • Team player;

  • Self-starter, using own initiative and is proactive;

  • Problem solving;

Self-management, able to manage their time effectively to meet long term goals set by senior levels or management and directors.

Job Offer

Working hours, 9.00 am - 5.30 pm
