An exciting opportunity has arisen with West Suffolk Councils. We are currently looking for a Welfare Benefits Officer to come and join our team based in Bury St Edmunds. You will join us on a full time, permanent basis working 37 hours a week and will receive a competitive starting salary of GBP24, 174 per annum plus benefits.

We have a dynamic Housing Options and Homelessness Team and are looking to expand this further with new posts to help us respond to significant changes in homelessness legislation and welfare reform.

What you'll be doing as our Welfare Benefits Officer

Your duties will include dealing with the public in a customer service /advice role and the delivery of a benefit advice service with a focus on the prevention of homelessness where possible. You will also liaise with and advise statutory and voluntary agencies on homelessness and a range of other housing issues.

What we're looking for in our Welfare Benefits Officer

You must have experience of working with the general public, be a team player with well developed communication and written skills, and be able to understand and implement housing law and policies. Knowledge of current Housing/Welfare Benefits system, legislation and regulations is essential.
