An exciting opportunity as a Payroll Officer within a food manufacturing organisation has become available. The company is local to Thetford and the position on offer is on a Fixed Term Contract basis of approx. 12 months. It is a massively growing organization, and a market leader for its product, so there may be the potential to be offered a permanent position at the end of the FTC - this will be dependent on expansion of the company and of course personal performance within the role.

Duties of the Payroll Officer (12 month FTC) include:

• Acting as part of a hands-on HR team and processing the payroll for several sites.
• Ensuring that the payroll is processed within agreed deadlines and that you are compliant with all statutory and reporting legislation.
• The responsibility for ensuring all employee taxes and pensions are calculated correctly for payment by the Management Accountant.
• Assisting in ensuring timesheets are updated to compile weekly hours, clearing T&A anomalies and checking holiday and sickness records in preparation for processing payroll
• Dealing with supervisor/line manager queries regarding the clearing of T&A anomalies and approval of early starts and overtime
• Processing fit for work certificates to ensure sickness records are up to date and liaising with HR colleagues regarding ongoing sickness and missing fit for work certificates
• Reviewing and calculating any payroll anomalies for the week such as training and shift changes
• Ensuring compliance with PAYE/NIC legislation, including reading and understanding information provided by HMRC
• Calculating SSP/CSP/SMP/SPP for a weekly payroll
• Adding new starters and maintaining records on payroll/HR system to ensure all data is correct and up to date
• Preparing payment schedules for Union - sending to Accounts for payments
• Preparing Pension, YBS Share save scheme and Attachment of Earning Order summaries for Management Accountant to make payments
• Handling any other payroll queries and resolving issues quickly and effectively with a positive approach, paying attention the root cause of the issue
• Identifying and making improvements to existing processes to minimise errors and improve efficiencies

Skills required to be considered for the position of Payroll Officer (12 month FTC):

• Previous experience in a payroll position
• Previous experience of payroll and time/attendance software systems
• Strong IT skills, particularly with the use of Excel
• Your own initiative and excellent communication skills
• Attention to detail and the ability to problem solve

This is a 12 month FTC, however the organization is massively growing and as such there may be the opportunity to go forward for a permanent position following the end of the FTC.
