I am directly supporting the CEO/Co-Founder of a new Paddington-based fintech start-up, who are working to change the way financial oil and commodity markets are traded by making the currently manual processes electronic and seamless.

Their aim is to capitalise on what is an industry with huge inefficiencies and hence great scope for technical improvement, by building a next-generation B2B/SaaS product that immediately better serves the needs of the giants of the oil trade.

The long-term strategy includes harvesting the years of rich, but unstructured, data that's currently sat on the Servers of these major organisations using complex data science/natural language processing/machine learning techniques.

It's a well-planned mission, in a lucrative space, with significant potential. They already have a number of large clients on-board, and are demonstrating their value.

Given their business pipeline, there's increased demand to deliver new features and functionality, so the CTO is looking for a right-hand engineer to support with the build out of both the front and back ends of the core platform.

Their Front End is relatively well constructed at present, built in JavaScript with Ember.js. There's a lot of analytics and charting implementation, as well as general trading screen functionality to be developed.

Their Back End still has a substantial amount of work to be done; they're in discussions about moving forward with either Elixir or Node as their language of choice.

The successful individual to suit this position will hold top academic achievements; have at least 3-years commercial experience; and be specialised in robust web application development across the full stack.

Required skills & experience:

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science/Mathematics from a world-class academic institution
  • 3 years commercial experience building modern web applications.
  • Experience with JavaScript and/or Elixir
  • Experience with Ember/React/Angular

In essence, this position would suit a language-agnostic engineer, who can pick up new frameworks and tools quickly, and gets excited about tackling a variety of challenges around front and Back End performance.
