Job Title: Deputy Payroll Manager Accountancy

Salary: to GBP36.000 depending on experience + benefits

My client is thriving accountancy practice who have been in business for over 20 years. Due to business growth they are now recruiting for a Deputy Payroll Manager to join the business on a permanent basis

Purpose of Role

You will be responsible for the management of the Client Lifecycle Team and providing direct support to the Payroll Manager.
You will have excellent supervisory and communication skills which compliment comprehensive payroll experience.


To manage the Client Lifecycle Team ensuring accuracy, integrity and compliance
To assistant the payroll manager with the daily management of the payroll team
Provide technical support to staff and clients on PAYE matters
Assist with training new team members
Active support in business development including attending pitches. You will initially be assisting the Payroll Manager in pitching client services to new clients.
Over time you will carry out these pitches alone in the Payroll Managers Absence
Client service visits to maintain service standards and relationships
Processing BACS payments
Assisting processing teams when required and where practical

Supervisory responsibilities

There are 10 in the team, you will be responsible for supervising 8 of these
Day to day basis primarily supervising 2 administrators

Skills Required

The Person - Skills & Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the PAYE system
Previous management experience
Client will consider a Team Lead/ Senior if you have significant supervisory experience (min 5 reports)
Accurate and methodical with a keen eye for detail
Committed to providing an outstanding level of service
Have the ability to manage multiple tasks whilst working towards strict timeframes
Excellent communication and presentation skills both written and verbal
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Experienced in running multiple payrolls, processing pensions and employee expenses
Technical knowledge of Star Payroll, Sage Payroll and support software desired
Ability to identify potential development areas
Bureau experience is desirable
CIPP qualified or equivalent - Desirable but not essential
