The Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an ambitious individual to join the small, high-profile central Group Accounting team which is responsible for:

- Monthly consolidation of Group financial results
- Preparation of quarterly and annual Group financial statements including the earnings release and the Group statutory accounts
- Managing and providing guidance to the Group on complex accounting issues (eg. hedging, stock options accounting, earnings per share)
- Preparation of statutory accounts for UK / international entities


Key Responsibilities:

The successful candidate`s responsibilities will involve working closely with and supporting the Group Accounting Manager across a number of the above areas. There are two roles at a similar level reporting to the Group accounting Manager; one role has a higher technical content and takes the lead on the statutory reporting and the other role is more operational and takes the lead on the monthly consolidation. It is envisaged that the successful candidate would rotate through the two roles over 2- 3 year period before either moving into the Group Accounting Manager role or moving outside the team into a more commercial finance role.

- Management of the monthly Group consolidation process including preparation of the Group cash flow statement
- Working closely with the Finance Operations team to ensure that the Group reporting system (Adaptive) is and remains aligned with SAP
- Ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the consolidated monthly results presented to the business units
- Preparation (with the assistance of the Group Accountants) of the annual and quarterly Group financial statements, liaising with the FP&A, Investor Relations, Treasury and Company Secretary departments to ensure timely completion of all deliverables
- Managing the team in the absence of the Group Accounting Manager, acting as her "right hand person"
- Preparation and process management of approximately 20 sets of statutory accounts
- Monitoring all other reporting requirements - bank reporting, US and Canadian company surveys
- Lead on any other finance related ad-hoc projects

Knowledge and Skills:

- Professional accounting qualification (ACA or overseas equivalent) ideally gained from one of the from the Big 4
- 2 - 3 years post qualified experience
- Recent management or supervisory experience
- Excellent recent knowledge of IFRS and UK plc disclosure requirements
- Excellent communication skills, both written and spoken
- Experience with complex consolidations in a multinational company environment, including working together with international colleagues
- Strong knowledge of Excel (pivot tables, v look ups etc.)
- Flexible, hard-working and results oriented
- Strong analytical skills
- Experience of SAP would be an advantage but is not essential
