Tax Manager - Unique Practice - Milton Keynes
Robert Half are hiring for a Tax Manager for an exciting, fast-growth practice based near to Milton Keynes.
This is a permanent, full-time position offering flexibility and a good work-life balance - typical hours are 9-5.30 but you can start and finish earlier or later, and if you want you can work longer days in order to work a 4 day week.
The Tax Manager will assist the Tax Director in leading the firms tax offering and will manage 3-4 more junior tax staff. The practice focuses on working with high-growth SME tech companies in sectors such as manufacturing, engineering, software, bio-tech - some example clients include engine manufacturers for motor racing teams, and a cutting-edge aerospace business.
The team is responsible for taking the financial data from clients, putting into their corporate tax return software and laying on an R&D tax claim, as well as submitting personal tax returns for the owners and directors of these companies. The Tax Manager is responsible for day-to-day management of the team who do much of the hands-on work, but he or she will also prepare more complex returns and will deal with escalated issues.
Interestingly the company is moving away from a typical practice model to become more of a growth consultancy, and as a result the Tax Manager is expected to get to know their clients inside-out and to build strong relationships in order to provide commercial advice which supports the client companies' growth.
The company are looking to hire a qualified tax adviser (CTA) or tax accountant (ACA / ACCA / ICAS). It is essential to have prior experience submitting UK corporate tax returns; prior experience in personal tax or R&D tax is beneficial but not required.
The successful candidate will have prior experience at managing or mentoring staff, and will be able to build strong relationships with an already established client base.
The ideal person will be a Tax and Accounts Manager at a small-to-medium practice who is looking to move to a larger practice with more interesting clients, or a Tax Consultant at a larger practice who is looking to take on a Tax Manager role and wants to get out of a large-firm culture and join a firm with a different approach where they can make a real impact.
The client is a Top 100 UK accountancy practice based near to Milton Keynes who specialise in working with high-growth tech companies. They are continuing to grow rapidly as a result of being one of the most profitable UK firms and they aim to be in the Top 50 next year.
The culture there is fantastic.There is a real collaborative feel to the company and staff are rewarded by the management for good performance. For example last year staff were given extra days off in December after hitting their target, and they were allowed to take back the extra hours they worked during busy periods during less busy weeks.
Salary and Benefits
Salary is circa GBP40,000 to GBP50,000 dependent on experience, with yearly salary reviews. On top is 17% bonus and 5% matched pension.
