Senior Implementation Manager (Software Implementation)

Salary: up to GBP52,500

We are expanding our IT Delivery Group and are recruiting into a number of posts within the Revenue & Customs Digital Technology Service in Southend.

Revenue & Customs Digital Technology Services (RCDTS) was set up in 2015 as a subsidiary of HMRC's Chief Digital & Information Officer Group and has one of the largest customer bases in the world. This is an exciting time for our organisation as we embark on a bold plan to make HMRC one of the most digitally advanced tax authorities in the world.

RCDTS comprises a team of technology experts working on essential IT projects: tackling tax non-compliance through creating a single case management platform for HMRC, and developing the technology that supports the collection of revenue through borders and trade with other countries

Senior Implementation Manager (Manager, Hardware, Test) Job description
• Lead the definition implementation strategy and production of implementation plans of requests of change for managing changes to the live environment, and leads discussions with stakeholders around risk mitigation and dependency management.
• Track and lead the implementation of approved changes in accordance with RFC and approval documentation.
• Carry out simple enquiries on the status of changes, using change database where appropriate.
• Agree and produce a communication plan & compile a supporting contact list of responsible parties & escalation managers associated with the implementation.
• Respond to queries from stakeholders and contacts stakeholders (for whom implementation management service is provided) to raise queries and provide information, and amend the implementation plan as appropriate.
• Circulate implementation documentation to a defined distribution of clients/users.
• Assist with the provision of awareness material to clients/users to explain the importance of a structured implementation management process.
• Use the tools and techniques for specific areas of release and deployment activities.
• Administer the recording of activities, logging of results and documents technical activity undertaken. Provides input to known problem and solution and implementation management function.
• May carry out early life support activities to initial users.
• Facilitate successful Implementation Management Forums of any size and provide accurate minutes of meetings and other Management Information
• Requires relationships with, and influence over a wide range of people at various levels within the organisation
• Ensures the project is handed over to Live Services with a defect state known and agreed

Technologies involved for the Senior Implementation Manager (Manager, Hardware, Test) role
• Operations/Service Architecture: Knowledge of IT/IS infrastructure (hardware, databases, public/private cloud, operating systems, intelligent SAN, SaaS, middleware/SOA, local area networks, Lan, WLan, Wi-fi etc)
• IT applications and service processes associated with sustainability and efficiency, including virtualisation, re-use/sharing, and closed loop strategies.

Technical skills of the Senior Implementation Manager (Manager, Hardware, Test)
• Applications systems: New deployment or implementation management tools and new delivery approaches and applying these to the implementation management function e.g. delivers in a DEVOPS environment. Increasingly a DEVOPS approach is taken where development and operational staff work together.
• Configuration Management: The discipline which gives precise control over IT assets by allowing IT management to maintain information about the "configuration items", including hardware devices, computer programmes, software licences, documentation, telecommunication services and computer centre facilities (virtualised and static) required to deliver an IT service. Also used for version control of project artefacts and deliverables.
• Release Management: The management of the processes, systems and functions to package, build, test and deploy changes and updates which are bounded as "releases" into the "pre-production" or "production" environment; concession management on acceptance of level of non-conforming release items.
• Operations Management: Methods, techniques and tools for planning, organising, resourcing, directing, co-ordinating and monitoring ongoing implementation activities.
