Our Birmingham based client has been established for more than half a century and specialise in the sourcing and distribution of highest quality fresh FMCG produce to customers throughout the UK and Europe, employing more than 250 people and having numerous sites across the country. As a result of continued success and a planned programme of ongoing strategic growth, they are now seeking to recruit an experienced, dynamic and proactive Business Unit Manager to manage the Ripening function and complement their established and successful team.
Responsible for a team of more than 30 personnel in an environment with a GBP20m turnover, the successful Business Unit Manager will be responsible for managing the ripening production and packaging of all of the ripening categories through effective use of supervisors and team leaders, overseeing intake, storage, production and dispatch functions and both maintaining and improving on service level targets and ripening systems to optimise productivity and reduce waste.
Working closely with relevant internal departments to introduce a robust Ripening Management System that will ensure full compliance with regular reviews/audits of the systems, you will establish a working model in conjunction with the forecast model based on customer demand and historical data that will include grower & origin performance whilst paying particular attention to seasonality changes and effects on the ripening process, reviewing performance by country of origin and feeding back into the commercial function in terms of yield, waste downgrade and overall performance of fruit.
As Business Unit Manager, you will also conduct inbound inspections to ensure fruit meets specific customer criteria and ensure the entire conditioning process is maintained to specifications including, unloading/loading rooms, load selection and staging, load building and truck loading, and will monitor operations to identify and implement improvements or corrective actions that can be taken, optimising the full process flow from intake to despatch and ensuring efficient planning of equipment and people.
Other duties will involve ensuring the department maintains and improves quality standards relating to selecting, packing, labelling and boxing products for customers, agreeing production targets and KPI's and implementing lean techniques and visual management tools including SIC boards for improving processes and reducing costs and improving efficiencies.
To be considered for this diverse and extremely challenging role, you will be IT literate and demonstrate experience of Health and Safety, supplier management, man management and motivation within an FMCG environment.
