Underwriting Portfolio Analyst, Insurance, London

The Underwriting Portfolio Analyst will support the Pricing & Underwriting Performance Manager with monitoring the underwriting performance of and providing analytical support to a portfolio of personal lines insurance accounts, mainly within the Mobile Telecommunication sector.

The job holder will work within a team of 6 analysts reporting to the Pricing & Underwriting Performance Manager. The role will involve mainly working with the European portfolio, but will also have some exposure to Asia-Pacific and Latin America portfolios. The successful candidate will have experience using SAS and be confident to write their own code and amend code created by others.

Required Experience

  • Degree - preferably in numerical or science subjects
  • Advanced Excel
  • Progression towards CII qualification advantageous
  • Knowledge of SAS or other programming languages
  • Experience in insurance industry and managing large datasets ideally with some level of personal lines experience and able to handle data through relevant tools.
  • Ability to think logically and to work in a fast paced team. Experience working with Excel at an advanced level and able to use and create code in SAS.

Key Responsibilities

  • Production of monthly scheme underwriting performance reports using SAS including detailed variance analysis of the actual v expected underwriting performance and where appropriate recommending actions to improve performance. Communication of results in clear and concise manner.
  • Improve content of the reporting produced each month by recommending further areas for investigation. Continuously look for ways to drive efficiency via the identification of process improvements or automating reoccurring tasks.
  • Production of the monthly underwriting bordereaux
  • Production of adhoc reporting to support underwriting analysis, utilising advanced Excel skills, extracting required data using adhoc programming utilizing SAS or via QlikView.
  • Creation of booking schedules, carrying out the monthly premium bookings within the accounting system, monitoring financial reports to ensure bookings are accurate
  • Help to assess new business opportunities. This includes building pricing models and carrying out the associated analysis to accurately project performance.
  • Help develop detailed program specific performance models, including recommending changes and improvements and helping to maintain them.
