Overall Purpose of the Job:

Assist in the delivery of integrated and effective Research Support Services to service users that maximises our ability to financially plan, manage and monitor research grants and contracts. You will work with a team of colleagues to deliver a high quality research support service to academic and other service users. You will work with the RSS coordinator and provide assistance to RSS Delivery Team and other academic and professional support services colleagues engaged in the delivery or support of research activity and other externally funded projects in the broadest sense


Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
Analytical - ability to draft a costing to funder terms and conditions.
Interpersonal skills - ability to build rapport with researcher.
Influencing - ability to agree proposal changes with the researcher.
Self management - ability to meet deadlines while maintaining attention to detail.
IT skills - ability to use costing tools and external funding systems.
Accuracy - ability to do information searches, data checks and data input.
Numeracy - confident with accounting concepts equivalent to AAT Level 3.
Communication - ability to build networks and communicate effectively

Institutional and local priority research areas.
University financial regulations and procedures.
Terms and conditions of standard funding bodies.
Institutional policies - salaries, subsistence.
Overview of general processes for contractual research and governance and ethics.
Internal networks and key institutional contacts.
Typical externally funded Project life cycles.
Funder terms and conditions
Institutional systems including Oracle Finance System, RMS
General financial awareness e.g. fEC rules, procurement methodologies, and VAT rules.
Budgeting / accounting procedure
