Here at National Express we are looking for pro-active and forward thinking Assistant Financial Accountant to join our Financial Accounts Team based in central Birmingham.

The successful candidate will be working closely with Management Accounts, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable and reporting to Financial Accountant as well as having direct management responsibility for two members of the finance team.

The Assistant Financial Accountant will play a key role in ensuring that all revenue stream cash is processed accurately and in a timely manner. They will also need to ensure that the financial controls are in place for National Express' Travel Shops and retail facilities across the Airports and Coach Station locations.

Key Responsibilities:

* To support the management in their strategic objectives for the business
* Ensure that the daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations are completed and approved in line with the company procedures and within assigned deadlines
* Conduct regular performance reviews and monitor daily productivity of the team
* Closely monitor the reconciliation between the in-house sales system, MI and cash received
* Prepare and produce regular reports regarding the month end figures for revenue postings and analysis
* To overview and control the accuracy of the balance sheets and escalate any potential risk and issues to the management team
* Participate in any ad-hoc projects assigned by the senior management
* Deliver continuous improvement regarding internal processes and procedures within the department

Skills and qualifications:

* Very strong leadership skills with proven experience in a managerial role for at least 2 years.
* Ability to coach, motivate and assist in personal development within the team
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in accomplishment of routine tasks
* Calm attitude and ability to prioritise, delegate and manage the workload while under pressure
* A minimum of 3 years previous experience within an accounting environment
* Strong knowledge of MS Excel including Pivot Tables & VLOOKUPS
* A minimum of AAT Level 4 or QBE
* Great communication and interpersonal skills
* Pro-active attitude and willingness to make a difference
* Flexibility regarding occasional travel to visit National Express' remote locations
* Knowledge of Open Accounts (desirable)
