Tutor/Learning Support Assistant

We are looking for bright, enthusiastic and energetic individuals to join the programme of support we run for our little boy, Tom, who is now 10 and who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2.

Tom is now well-settled in his mainstream primary school and doing well academically, especially in maths and music. The role involves shadowing him at school and home-based tuition during holidays and on some Saturdays. No previous experience is required as we give full training. Enthusiasm and interest are much more important!

We can offer 3 full days' work per week plus some Saturdays. The working day, in term time, runs from 8.45 to around 4.30. During holidays, hours are 9 to 5 with an hour for lunch, although we can be more flexible than in term time (e.g. 9.30 to 5.30 if this suits you better).

We will pay a bonus for time spent training (generally around 3 full days) although we do ask you to complete a month as a fully-qualified assistant working independently before we pay for this. Once you are qualified and working independently, we pay GBP12 per hour, and we generally review hourly rate around 3 months after qualification, subject to satisfactory performance. We are also prepared to consider a contribution to travelling expenses for assistants travelling from outside Sussex, where we live (about an hour's rail journey from East Croydon station, also accessible from Clapham Junction, Victoria and London Bridge. Local stations are Pulborough and Arundel).

The role would suit anyone with an interest in psychology, education, child care or child development. It would be very valuable experience for anyone planning a career in education or further academic study in the field of autism or child development
