Policy and Planning Officer

Salary: GBP29,805 to GBP39,978

Do you have experience of policy development/support, along with an understanding of developing policy within a legal framework and the ability to analyse research? If so, we've got the ideal opportunity for you at the General Medical Council (GMC) in London.

As the UK's medical regulator, we protect the public by setting, promoting and regulating professional standards not only for qualified doctors' practice, but also for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and training.

This role will play a key part in protecting the public by developing the policies by which medical professionals are judged. The Fitness to Practise directorate is continually evolving and its impact extends across the GMC. You'll be part of a team that monitors the process for handling concerns about doctors to ensure that our approach to investigations is fair and balanced.

In this highly visible role, your busy workload will involve assisting with a range of policy and planning projects, playing an active part in the development of new policies and fielding queries on complex policy issues, although you must be willing to help out with day-to-day administration. As you gain a greater insight into our work, you'll be given more exposure and responsibility.

With your policy background, we'll expect you to quickly acquire knowledge of fitness to practise policy and the work of the Directorate. As well as having strong admin and IT skills, you'll need the ability to communicate with people at all levels, including senior managers, plus the professionalism and composure to facilitate discussions.

In return, you'll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package.
