The role of the Senior Auditor
The Internal Audit Department delivers internal audit services to a range of clients in the UK and overseas. Through continual improvement it has developed new models and techniques to keep pace with changing business models and risk profiles. In 2017/18 the FCO will increase its overseas programme activity significantly. As a Senior Auditor you will help develop and deliver audit coverage in this area and, with other work, you will be required to travel globally for up to 12 weeks each financial year. Taking responsibility for audit and assurance assignments, you will make sure that a high standard is maintained with consideration given to time and budget requirements.
A role that offers unique projects
In this exciting role, you will review your own and others audit and assurance activity, ensuring strict adherence to Public Sector Internal Audit Standards , IIA (Institute of Internal Auditors) Code of Ethics and the International Standards . Leading high-risk and complex audit and assurance assignments, you will deliver independent evidence-based audit reports to clients while working effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. Presenting your findings to Heads of overseas Posts, Directors General, Directors and Heads of Department, you will cover a varied programme of home and overseas audits that span various risk categories, not just financial. Additionally, you will offer advice, and continuous assurance to system owners.
What we are looking for
As well as being PIIA/CIA qualified, or holding a full CCAB qualification with recent Internal Audit experience with an aim to gain a CIA qualification, you will have a strong and resilient attitude. As well as undeniable enthusiasm and boundless energy for audit work, you will guide your team as you lead by example. Displaying sound judgement and the skills to communicate with people at all levels, you will team your collaborative working style with your strong audit experience to build responsive relationships. Possessing a keen eye for detail, you will be able to deliver accurate and professional decisions and advice.
Please note, you will be eligible for appointment only if you are a British citizen and if you have been resident in the UK for at least two of the previous ten years, at least one year of which must have been a consecutive twelve-month period, unless you have served overseas with HM Forces or in some other official capacity as a representative of Her Majesty's Government, or have lived overseas as a result of your parents' or partner's Government employment. Furthermore, to enable the appropriate security checks to be carried out, you must have resided for at least three consecutive years in one country. Be aware that a lack of sufficient background information may preclude you from being granted security clearance.
This job requires Security Check security clearance as a condition of employment. If you are successful at interview, you will be asked to complete a number of security questionnaires. Employment references will also be obtained. There will be checks on your nationality and other matters, before a formal offer of appointment can be made. Due to the requirement of overseas travel with this position, medical clearance is mandatory.
