How we work:

Action for Children does what's right, does what's needed and does what works for children in the UK. Every year, our team changes the lives of 390,000 children, young people and families.

The role of Director of Policy and Campaigns presents a rare opportunity for a talented leader to transform the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

We are looking for an exceptional Director to take our high performing team to the next level. We need to turn up the volume and make our voice heard by the people with the power to change things.

How you'll make a difference:

By owning, developing and directing our political influencing strategy to secure change to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged children.

By developing impactful policy change campaigns and building our core of committed supporters - public, political and thought leaders

By ensuring that our strategy development is informed by a far-sighted analysis of the political landscape.

By evidencing, analysing and interpreting the issues faced by children and young people, identifying evidence-based solutions and making recommendations for change

By leading and inspiring your team.

What you'll need:

  • Proven and demonstrable track record within the not-for-profit or public sector in a senior level role
  • Desirable - have experience of working within the Children's sector or have a strong knowledge of the issues facing children
  • Experience of delivering successful and impactful policy change campaigns and building a supporter base
  • Proven evidence of work with complex strategic planning within complex areas of public policy, ideally with experience of commissioning and managing research projects
  • To enjoy and thrive on leading and motivating a team
  • Be able to work collaboratively at all levels and across organisations both internally and externally
  • You will also be interested in public affairs and follow national developments and debates
