The Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) was created by the Prime Minster from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Department for Energy and Climate Change. It has one of the widest remits in Whitehall and a key role to play in making markets work well for business, consumers and workers.

The four Deputy Director roles that are being advertised will be part of the senior management team of the Better Regulation Executive (BRE).

As Deputy Director, Better Regulation you will be working closely with other departments across Whitehall and their regulators to promote the principle of better regulation, challenge the way in which they enforce existing regulation and their proposals for new regulation, and ensure that any new regulatory burdens are necessary and proportionate.

Regulation is critical to the effective working of many markets, the protection of the environment, consumers and working people, but also provides significant constraints and administrative requirements on business.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership abilities, a flexible, creative and proactive approach, an ability to prioritise quickly and efficiently, and a willingness to take ownership of work and see it through to completion. Excellent policy development skills with a strong analytical capability is one of the key aspects of the role as well as being capable of understanding broad strategic challenges and communicating them simply to a wide audience.

This is a pivotal moment in the history of BRE as the directorate advises Ministers on the approach to take to better regulation during this parliament. BRE will need to address the challenges and opportunities presented by leaving the European Union.
