Our client is a national law firm offering a unique collection of specialisms across the commercial, public, health and insurance sectors, with offices in Birmingham, Exeter, London, Manchester and Nottingham. Purpose of the role:

To be a junior member of the tax team (recognised in Chambers and Legal 500) which currently comprises of one partner, one director, and a trainee. The tax team is based in Birmingham and Nottingham offices, although the team works with and provides support to other teams in all of their offices across the country. The tax team acts for a broad range of clients across the private, public and third sectors, with clients ranging from individuals to multi-national corporates and large public sector bodies.

The role would involve the following areas of work:

- Advice on real estate tax issues, including SDLT (technical advice and compliance) and VAT;

- Corporate tax, including tax legal support on share and asset sales and acquisitions;

- Employee share schemes, and employment tax, including legal drafting and technical advice.

In addition, the role is likely to involve providing support to the team on advice on various tax issues as they arise, including in relation to banking, EIS/SEIS, and stamp duty among others.


To be referred to in conjunction with the generic job description and your personal development plan, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

?? Providing advice on time and to a high standard of technical competence

?? Developing responsibility for running with their own files, but with support from senior team members as required

?? Assisting the more senior members of the team with more complex transactions and advice

?? Achieving budgeted hours and fees as a minimum

?? Supporting the core principles of "investors in clients" to deliver exceptional client service

?? Undertaking any other duties as required, commensurate with the level of the post Job description Technical skills

?? Excellent legal drafting and research/analysis skills: able to provide clear, concise and commercially relevant solutions, explaining/advising succinctly on difficult and complex areas

?? Keen to maintain personal development and take advantage of training opportunities;

keeping up to date with legal issues and developments (both practical and "black letter" law)

?? Knowledge of general principles of SDLT, stamp duty, VAT, CGT and corporation tax preferred, but training and support will be provided as required

?? CTA qualification not necessarily required; if the successful candidate wanted to, we could explore with them the possibility of studying for the CTA qualification

?? Good IT and keyboard skills, at ease with digital dictation, electronic time recording and case management systems Compliance
