About the opportunities

Our vision is for the children and families of Rotherham to routinely experience and describe the services they receive from us, as outstanding. We intend to do that by putting the child first in everything we do and investing in providing quality learning and development programmes for all our staff.

Within the context of a new leadership team, an increasingly stable and permanent workforce and innovative best-practice improvement and transformation programmes, you will play a vital role in building our performance culture providing leadership, direction and support that is rewarding in every sense, for every member of staff.

We are now offering a fantastic opportunity to join our new Quality, Learning & Development Team. This team has recently been created to combine quality assurance activities with responsive and dynamic learning and development programmes and opportunities. These will be delivered as part of an innovative Learning Academy, a structured career pathway and will include the implementation of new methodological approaches, such as Signs of Safety and Restorative Practice. There is a workforce offer that includes 15 guaranteed training days and a range of innovative practice approaches as part of our transformational plans.

Making such a significant investment in time, money and resources, and taking such a pro-active approach to developing our people, demonstrates how serious we are about our staff being the best they can be in order to provide excellent services for local children, young people and their families.

Principal (Child and Families) Social Worker

This role has been developed in accordance with the recommendations from Professor Eileen Munro (May 2011). In Rotherham, the Principal Social Worker is uniquely placed to work alongside front-line practitioners and managers to 'challenge and support' social work best practice standards as well as report and consult directly with Ian Thomas, DCS, and Departmental Leadership Team (DLT) to champion the voice of front line social work practitioners and advise about social work practice standards and service delivery. The successful candidate will be a seasoned social worker with extensive knowledge and skills who will be able to keep a finger on the pulse of best practice and sector led developments at a local, regional and national level.

Consultant Social Work Practitioner

Consultant Social Work Practitioners (CSWPs) are very skilled and experienced non-case holding practitioners who are responsible for the induction, development and supervision of Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSW) completing their Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE). CSWP's provide targeted and bespoke learning and development support to enable NQSWs to complete a Portfolio of Evidence and achieve accreditation. In addition, CSWP's support, develop, coach and mentor all social work staff throughout their career pathway and are responsible for researching, designing, co-producing and facilitating a range of creative and innovative learning and development interventions to improve practice skills and improvements. CSWPs will be part of a designated pool of Advanced Signs of Safety Practitioners.

Audit Consultants (x 2)

Audit Consultants are responsible for supporting continual practice improvement in accordance with the 'Beyond Auditing' Quality Assurance Framework which advocates real-time coaching with practitioners and front-line managers as part of an extensive audit programme across all casework teams and services in the department. As well as being experienced and skilled auditors themselves, they will be able to coordinate, develop and facilitate quality assurance activity by advising, supporting and assisting the wider management group. Consultant Auditors help to achieve and maintain best practice standards by reviewing and analysing practice evidence and measuring this against Ofsted grade descriptors and best practice standards. Audit Consultants will be adept at coaching and mentoring practitioners and managers to ensure that meaningful engagement and accountability is achieved across the department.
