We are looking for someone to manage our friendly legal team. As part of the role you will you will be managing a full and interesting workload of both complex and diverse matters. This includes providing support to the Monitoring Officer and to act as Deputy in their absence; leading the day to day running of the legal team; conducting and supervising the conduct of litigation and other contentious business on behalf of the Council; and providing timely and accurate legal advice.

You should be a qualified Solicitor or Barrister with at least 3 years' PQE and a comprehensive understanding and current knowledge of relevant law and procedures relating to local government. Experience in litigation, planning and procurement would be beneficial.
The successful applicant will be able to provide visible and supportive leadership on a daily basis and have effective negotiating skills to protect the interests of the Council in negotiations with third parties and their legal advisers. In addition you will need to have good interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate with a variety of audiences and deal with high profile issues which may impact the Authority's reputation.
This post requires you to have a full driving licence and own transport or requires travelling to sites in a timely manner equivalent to motor travel in your own car. Due to the nature of the role, this is a politically restricted post.
