Job Description

PI is on a mission to give every business access to better insights and to facilitate data-driven decisions. Headquartered in London, with offices in Spain and US.

We are seeking a Finance Manager (FM) to support the Financial Controller (FC) in managing the Finance function. The role is initially 5 days but could become 3 to 4 days a week.


Pi has outsourced the day to day bookkeeping as well as the preparation of annual accounts to accountancy firms. The accounts are maintained in Xero. The company maintains offices and operations in the US and Spain, with the headquarters in Central London. We are served by a primary accountancy firm based in the UK that maintains UK and US accounts. A Spanish accountancy firm maintains the Spanish accounts. Our pension scheme is managed by an external pension management company. The accountants should also perform the reconciliation function against the bank accounts. Pi maintains the issuance of invoices, and performs credit control in-house.

The Role

The FM will support the FC in the management of the accountancy firms, reviewing and authorising various activities such as payroll, VAT submissions, and annual accounts.

As a member of the team you will play an integral role in an ambitious and expanding organisation.

It is paramount that the person fulfilling the role is hardworking and works well under pressure. The individual should enjoy working within a team, as they will be required to communicate effectively with other members of staff. They should also be able to work independently.

Key Responsibilities - Support the FC in the day-to-day running of the Finance function

  • Support Vendor management

  • Support the FC and HR in reviewing the monthly payroll, expenses and pension contributions

  • Under the direction of the FC deal with the accounts receivable and the reconciliation of the accounts

  • Ensure that Xero is updated and the reports from Xero are accurate

  • Develop external relationships with appropriate contacts including auditors, solicitors, HMRC, and statutory organisations

Key Responsibilities - Support longer-term financial planning and analysis

  • Cash flow simulation and forecasting

  • Support the FC to continue to improve our financial management processes and controls, to meet compliance requirements and minimize financial risk

Personal Profile:


Finance experience

Minimum 3-5 years experience working in a similar finance function within a relevant commercial or social business.

Competence and understanding of numerical data and graphs

Excellent understanding of financial statements and cash flow forecasting techniques and knowledge of common business drivers.

Accounting qualifications

CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified and/or QBE

Working in small teams

You will need to demonstrate that you are able to work and thrive as part of small team and work independently where necessary.

Ability to work independently; initiative to improve on current systems; must be a problem solver


Problem Solving

You will always try and see why problems occur and find creative ways to solve them. You will be expected to be flexible and adapt to changing needs, and be able to demonstrate delivering results under pressure.

Communication and relationship building

Ability to initiate, develop and maintain relationships with staff and external stakeholders at a senior level.


The role will include managing a large amount of data and management information and keeping to strict deadlines. Attention to detail, maintaining records and time management are essential

IT Skills and Accounting software

Excellent IT skills, with particular emphasis on spreadsheet packages e.g. Excel

Experience in Google Suite

We currently use Xero so experience and understanding of this will be beneficial.
