Java Development Lead vacancy at the HMRC. The HMRC is undergoing a GBP1 billion digital transformation project, creating many new digital services and improving existing ones. You will have the opportunity to play a key role in this transformation which will affect millions of users, both citizens and businesses.

This is specifically within our Customs & International Trade function (C&IT). C&IT has over 100 services in play already relating to trade statistics, customs & excise administration and more. This role will be based in our Essex office in Southend-on-Sea, although by 2020 this will be relocated to Stratford in East London.

From a development point of view, this department operates a guild structure in an Agile environment. Your official job title will be Java Guild Leader and your responsibilities will include the following:

•Setting and maintaining technical standards
•Take responsibility for the day to day operation of a functional element of the Guild.
•Promoting technical excellence and driving continual improvement
•Maintain a clear definition of the technical and operational standards
•Ensure that Guild knowledge is shared including into the wider HMRC IT function
•Identify, develop & maintain tooling used in the guild
•Take a lead on recruitment of more developers if needed
•Help provide technical performance assessment of peers and guild members.

This will not be a hands-on development role, but you will need a technical understanding of Java development. Experience with a combination of the following would be useful:

•Spring/Struts
•GIT
•MongoDB, MySQL, MaiaDB, Hadoop
•Ansible, Artifactory, Jenkins
•JBoss, WebLogic, Tomcat
•Microservices
•Automated Testing and release environments

On top of the base salary you will be eligible for a Civil Service Pension. At this level you would get a net pension of 15% (you contribute 7%, we contribute 22%).
