Laboratory Team Leader (Organics)

Position: Team Leader ?? Organics Laboratory
Location: Hawarden
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm
Salary: circa GBP24k per annum

About the role:

The Laboratory Team Leader role will be key in managing successfully the associated tasks to the daily work of the department, ensuring a close relationship and strong and effective communication with other areas of the laboratory and maintaining a keen focus on Quality and Training.


• Lead and maintain an appropriate Health & Safety regime ensuring risk assessments
• Quality Control procedures in accordance with their Quality Management System
• Ensure that all AQC and other quality charts are completed on time
• Investigate any QC failures and implement corrective actions. Carry out audit actions on time
• Manage equipment, perform maintenance and minimise downtime
• Coordinate and deliver appropriate training to team members, as required
• Ensure that all employees are trained in the use of any supporting software systems and that such systems are being fully utilised
• Use KPIs generated to work with other members of the management team / departments to ensure that the laboratory meets their customer demands and workload is managed effectively
• Prioritise, allocate and monitor work among team members as necessary
• Implement or facilitate improvements within the work area

About you:

You will be passionate about investing in people to achieve your department's objectives. You will lead by example to promote an engaged and productive working environment. Applicants should have previous experience of working within an Organic laboratory environment and will ideally possess a degree in a relevant Scientific or Management subject.

The successful candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, being able to communicate well orally and in writing. Computer literacy is essential specifically in the use of Microsoft Office packages such as Excel. Building relationships with both internal and external customers at multiple locations will be a key element of the successful candidate's role therefore the ability to build and maintain relationships is an essential.

Problem solving and proactive thinking are essential skills that the successful candidate will require to lead the continuous improvement of the laboratory and the service their team provide.
