Mechanical Design Engineer (Medical Devices, 3D CAD, Test, Hands-on)

Our client is a dynamic and innovative medical devices start-up developing a cutting edge medical device. As part of their continuing growth they now have a requirement for a Mechanical Design Engineer with excellent 3D CAD skills and hands-on experience building, testing and developing medical devices and their associated manufacturing processes and validation.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop 3D CAD models of medical device components and evaluate performance using FEM simulation
  • Liaise with users/clinicians to design housing and grip mechanism suitable for injection moulding tooling
  • Produce drawings to ISO standards, design verification, and risk management to ISO 13485.
  • Liaise with researchers/subcontractor engineers regarding the design and CFD testing.
  • Manage the development of methods and phantoms for bench testing the devices
  • Organise external validation at test houses
  • Undertake hands-on build and test in-house
  • Manage external subcontractors
  • Develop, optimise and evaluate the processes required for the assembly.
  • Supervise the device assembly
  • Keep accurate and comprehensive records of all experiments
  • Attend meetings, workshops, conferences and training as required
  • Report to the CTO and CEO, liaise with fellow technical staff.

Education and Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • 3D CAD, FEM simulation, dynamics/mechanical analysis
  • Design verification, DFMEA, UFMEA, and risk management
  • Medical Device Directive

Desirable

  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 quality systems
  • Medical device manufacturing processes
  • Injection moulding
  • Working in a research or medical device development environment
