Polymer / Research Scientist

Location: South

Salary: 35-45K

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a rapidly expanding biotechnology company based in the Surrey area. The company develops and applies cutting edge tools in biotechnology to elucidate and design new biosynthetic pathways in a range of microbial hosts.

Qualification and experience

  • PhD or MSc in Chemistry, Polymer or related subject with 5 years' experience, preferably industrial,
  • Good practical knowledge of method development, optimization, synthesis and characterization of Polymers.
  • Hands-on experience in using GC, GPC, DSC, FTIR, Inherent viscosity, HPLC, NMR

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analytical/QC:
  • Method characterisation and development for R&D and transferring the methods to QC including the training of QC and R&D personnel
  • Writing SOPs, procedures and instructions
  • Validation of analysis methods and production processes
  • Conducting test protocols and procedures, and product evaluation
  • Any other appointed QA/QC tasks

Polymer and Product Development:

  • Designing & carrying out experiments and drawing appropriate conclusions from results and communicating results and conclusions clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
  • Carrying out polymer synthesis and assisting in the development of manufacturing processes for production
  • Conduct and document R&D work and tasks, writing study plans and technical reports according to Quality system
  • Clean room working
  • Assisting in production processes when required
  • Any other appointed R&D/production tasks

Maintenance

Assisting with general laboratory duties as required, some of which may involve taking ownership of items of laboratory equipment and training people in its use

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Capable of working as an individual and team player.
  • Good analytical and technical problem solving skills.
