Do you want to be a part of a team, chosen by Cancer Research UK in their GBP100M inaugural Grand Challenge to create a 'Google Earth' view of tumours and help beat cancer sooner?

We are currently recruiting talented postdoctoral researchers to work within the National Centre of Excellence in Mass Spectrometry Imaging (NiCE-MSI) at NPL.

The Grand Challenge: By pursuing a multiscale (organ to organelle) and multi-omics approach with a range of mass spectrometry imaging (MSI) techniques (MALDI, DESI, SIMS and ICP-MS), we aim to deepen our understanding of the interplay of genes, proteins, metabolites and the role of the immune system in cancer development and growth. As Cancer Research UK has stated "this underpins almost everything we do, from the discovery and development of new therapeutics and diagnostics, to the design of new treatment and prevention strategies".

Methods: We will establish a multimodal imaging pipeline which gives a comprehensive, spatially resolved picture of the metabolism of solid tumours from subcellular to anatomical levels using in vivo, ex vivo and in vitro analyses. Starting with analysis of a selection of highly heterogeneous GEMMs will then explore the heterogeneity of histological segments in healthy and cancerous tissues of 3 epithelial cancers (breast, colorectal, pancreatic).

What we are looking for:

To achieve our ambitious goals NiCE MSI is recruiting 6 new talented and motivated postdoctoral scientists in mass spectrometry imaging and large scale data analysis. Successful candidates will have completed a degree and Ph.D. training in biomedical, physical or computational sciences.

In addition, 4 new PhD posts will be hosted at NPL offering unique training and development opportunities for those interested in working at the interface of physical and life sciences.

In addition to the Cancer Research UK project, the NiCE-MSI team has a wide range of research and commercial projects providing an excellent opportunity for learning, career development and innovation.

The team has an excellent publication output and provides a supportive environment to further research careers. A willingness and enthusiasm to work across multiple mass spectrometric modalities and methods as well as learn new techniques within the analytical sciences is necessary. A mutually supportive group ethos is encouraged and successful applicants will work as part of a motivated and dynamic multidisciplinary team.

Based in a unique, purpose-built research environment, we are located in beautiful surroundings on the edge of Bushy Park, south-west London with a host of onsite facilities. These include a subsidised cr??che, restaurant and free parking.

NPL Management Limited is committed to supporting its people to develop both personally and professionally and is committed to equal opportunities. NPL Management Limited is a Stonewall Diversity Champion and an Institute of Physics Project Juno Supporter.
