Senior Information Officer
Flexible working

Transport touches more lives on a daily basis than any other government department. Whether you are using the roads, rail, water, flying, walking or cycling – you’re affected by our policies.

That makes us one of the busiest departments in Whitehall. We have exciting times ahead - including building a new high speed rail system and overseeing expansion of aviation in London.

And we also have challenging times ahead - dealing with aviation security, industrial action and counter-terrorism.

Transport investment creates apprenticeships and skilled jobs, it underpins the government’s modern industrial strategy, and supports rebalancing the economy and the construction of new housing – meaning our announcements regularly top the No10 grid.

As a Senior Information Officer, you’ll be a first tier manager in our high-performing and fast-paced media relations team. Leading your own desk, you’ll oversee and deliver media handling for the Transport Secretary and his ministerial team. We’re looking for ambitious, enthusiastic and creative people with political nous and media expertise

And, in return, we promise you all the proactive announcements, ministerial access and crisis management experience you will need to further your career.

To make the most of this opportunity, a strong media background is essential. Having worked in a busy press office or public relations role, you’ve honed excellent writing skills and a flair for thinking creatively. You demonstrate good judgement and a sharp nose for a story, together with the face-to-face communication and influencing skills it takes to win the confidence of ministers and policy officials. We’ll always be able to rely on you for considered - and compelling - professional advice.

If you have the flair to turn transport policy into creative news stories, the sense to deal with fast breaking news and the ability to win the confidence of ministers, then this could be the job for you.
