Male Personal Assistant to work with a disabled student to provide practical and personal assistance to work from Sunday 6pm to Friday 6pm. This is a live-in position whilst working (ILA will consider applicants who are able to commitment to part of the shift ie Sunday-Wednesday).

ILA is looking for a PA who is able to socialize, is friendly, understanding and caring and if possible a football fan, preferably Chelsea supporter. The PA User is about to start a Masters in Cancer at University College London having graduated this year with a degree in Biomedical Sciences at Royal Holloway. He is a friendly, shy, hardworking and honest person. He enjoys reading, searching the web, checking email, watching football, movies and documentaries.

This position is to commence on 11 th September 2016 and will finish on 23 rd September 2018. The first week will be a training week to learn how to work and to learn safe techniques for transferring and assisting to stand and transfer as well as helping in the bathroom, shaving, shopping and generally getting to know each other. He has a passive exercise programme for PAs.

This year the PA User will be residing whilst working in student halls in central London (close to Russell Square).

The work involves assistance to: mobilise and transfer; go to the toilet and to change any continence aid; accompany to and from lectures; clean and maintain skin integrity through the day; have a shower; access his local community; participate in activities appropriate for his age and his local community; go to the cinema; build a social network for now and future independence and employment; to carry his lunch tray at uni; books; laptop; to assist with cooking and shopping; accompanying to football matches.

You will have plenty of downtime during the day whilst the PA User is at lectures and/or studying. There is the occasional night call for assistance to go to the loo.

The primary aim of the PA to enable the PA User to participate in his studies and subsequently enable him to pursue his chosen career in the future. As well as to participate in social activities.
