POSITION: Teacher

RESPONSIBLE TO: Headteacher

LOCATION: My Choice School

SALARY: GBP23,472.48pa


PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

To teach pupils at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To engage and motivate pupils, teaching in small classes and on a one to one basis.
  • To safeguard and promote the welfare of young people.
  • To deliver KS3 and KS4 curriculum following AQA unit award scheme including assessing pupils' work in line with AQA requirements and identifying and supporting work experience.
  • To liaise with the Headteacher in contributing to the development of a creative pupil centered curriculum.
  • To complete Individual Education Plans, Education Reports and maintain accurate records evidencing planning and achievements.
  • To ensure that the young person's educational programme complies with the ethos of the company and curriculum specifications and follows the Personal Education Plan.
  • To work within a budget and maintain financial records.
  • To attend SEN and LAC reviews where appropriate and support the educational progress of young people.
  • To follow My Choice Children's Homes and My Choice School Policies, Procedures and Practices.
  • To ensure effective liaison and communication is maintained with external agencies, the care team and the Headteacher.
  • To liaise with the Headteacher and care team, where appropriate, in supporting Independence Plans in accordance with OFSTED Standards.
  • Responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children within the home and pupils.
  • Promote and develop a welcoming, child centred environment and uphold the highest standards of honesty, integrity and vigilance in encouraging the very best for the young people in our care.
  • To ensure that DFE and OFSTED standards are maintained to the highest standards.
  • To ensure that pupil records are maintained to a professional standard.
  • To be able to demonstrate good practice and work with care staff and teaching colleagues to enable practice development.
  • To be able to work under pressure, work both reactively and proactively and meet deadlines.
  • To ensure that the young people when confronted with stressful situations or crisis are offered appropriate support.

  • To be able to build appropriate relationships with young people and form good communications.
  • To be able to forge and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, young people and their families as well as other professional organisations.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and others.
  • The ability to write professional reports.
  • The ability to drive and hold a driving license.
  • The ability to understand the needs of a young person and meet those needs in a planned way.
  • Knowledge of child development with an ability to relate theory to practice.
  • Experience of working with young people with SEBD
  • Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours.
  • Experience of working within a caring environment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection.
  • Basic principles of Equal Opportunities
  • Suitably qualified with a teaching or training qualification.
  • Willingness to undertake all training provided


CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

  • Working hours Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
  • Holiday entitlement: As per school holidays
