This is a high profile and stretching leadership role. The post holder will be responsible for finance business partnering and financial management across three Director General (DG) groups: Energy Security; Energy Transformation; and International, Growth & Analysis. These groups cover a diverse and exciting range of policy issues and programmes including: major projects such as Hinkley Point-C and new nuclear; consumer funded energy levies worth billions of pounds a year; management of liabilities relating to coal and nuclear decommissioning (the largest financial provision across government); international climate finance; promoting regional and local growth (with DCLG); and coordinating the department’s preparations for Brexit. The post holder will also have management responsibility for staff leading on Finance Professionalism across the Directorate and coordinating our engagement with the NAO and PAC on value for money issues. 

The post holder will collaborate with a range of stakeholders, taking finance to the heart of decision making, by bringing together policy and programmes with financial and commercial awareness and analysis. As a critical friend to the business, they will ensure stewardship of public funds, efficient and effective use of budgets and provide Ministers and officials with insightful financial analysis to inform decision making.
