Science Solutions are recruiting for a Microbiology Manager for a consumer goods manufacturer based in West Yorkshire. They are looking for a senior microbiologist, supervisor or existing microbiology laboratory manager to take on the challenges of this role.

Key responsibilities:

* Manage and maintain the workload in the microbiology laboratory ensuring challenge testing, environmental testing and water testing are completed to a high standard and in a timely manner.
* Ensure testing and release of raw materials, in-process samples and finished product including reoccurring inspections for microbiological purposes are completed to a high standard in a timely manner.
* Monitor and advise on appropriate actions to ensure results from Microbiological testing is of a consistent high standard.
* Manage Micro shift patterns to ensure that cover is available for all areas.
* Defining and maintain appropriate KPI figures for the Microbiology and Hygiene functions
* Monitor and advise appropriate actions to ensure the hygiene level in the factory is of an appropriate standard.
* Support the factory in developing comprehensive cleaning plan, review disinfection and cleaning efficacy and hygiene design of plant to optimise both cleaning and plant performance.
* Manage the factory pest control activities to eliminate factory pest issues.
* Facilitate continuous improvement projects and lead on problem solving exercises
* Participate in harmonisation projects with a view to share this practice across multiple sites ( may involve travel)
* Monitor and maintain hygiene standards within the factory and laboratory, ensuring at all times that any issues are communicated, to the Quality Manager, at the earliest opportunity thus minimising the risk of breaching customer standards and UK Health and Safety Law.
* Basic understanding of ISO14001 (EMS)
* Manage micro Inspection and verification of incoming materials, in-process and finished samples in line with established sampling plans. Managing the quarantine of Non-Conforming materials, micro issues.
* Review and update Micro and GMP procedure, WI and forms, and deliver training as required.
* Recruitment and training of Microbiology team.
* Key contact for Microbiology activities including during customer visits, External audits and QEN investigations.
* Assisting the Engineering Dept with introducing new equipment that can be effectively cleaned.
* Part of the leadership team for HACCP.
* Maintain an up to date awareness of new products and initiatives and incorporate as appropriate, to ensure that the organisation is at all times using the most applicable materials and thus maximising the value of its expenditure.
* Investigate, where necessary, Out of specification results and provide input into appropriate corrective actions.
* To be an effective communicator at all levels, inside and outside of the business.
* To advise the business on risks associated with micro issues and conduct investigations as required.
* To be a self-motivated leader who has the desire and passion to succeed in achieving personal, departmental and business Key Performance Measures
* Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements

Knowledge and experience:

* BSc in Microbiology or related field
* Significant experience in a microbiologist role with some supervisory experience as a minimum
* Experience of SAP preferential
* Experience and knowledge of GMP and BRC is essential
